    We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to join our Backend Engineering team. This is a very senior role and you would be reporting to the Engineering Manager.
    You would be working standalone and as a coach and contributor within a company that has an emphasis on high quality output using infrastructure as code, observability and monitoring as well as automated testing in all environments, including production.
    At M-KOPA we deploy multiple times per day, and you will be empowered to drive the architecture of our new fleet of microservices. We use predominantly C# written against the latest .NET stack, and favor microservices hosted on Azure using Kubernetes for all new implementations. A high level of proficiency in this area is needed.
    We are constantly iterating towards a completely decoupled, event driven architecture across our entire software portfolio.
    This is a fully remote role, within the following time zone (UTC -1 / UTC+3). Our engineers work remotely from locations such as UK, Europe and Africa. You will be reporting to the group Engineering Manager.

    Job Purpose
    We are looking for an IT Support Engineer with an Operations Technology (OT) focus to join our on-site IT team at our Phone Local Assembly Plant in Kenya.
    This is a lead role reporting directly to the IT Systems Manager.
    Collaboration
    You would actively be collaborating with the rest of the team in a high-performance cross-functional work environment, including industrial engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, and IT engineering. By extension, you would be a technical liaison between IT and the assembly line machine engineers and managers to support and deliver technical services and automation solutions to resolve assembly line issues and improve operational performance.
    Autonomous Support
    If you are self-driven and can work under minimum supervision, then this role would enable you to make decisions and recommendations that would directly affect IT support at the assembly line. You would be supporting operations and personnel to guarantee maximum uptime, ensuring timely backups of all critical IT systems are taken, tested, and properly stored to guarantee minimum RTO and RPO.
    Background

    If you have a background in creating and implementing solutions to improve operational performance, supporting and enhancing capability, and delivering and maintaining IT infrastructure, then this might be a fitting role.
    Additionally, having an IT-related certification with at least 2 years of working experience in IT, especially around Network Administration and PC maintenance would make you a right fit.

    Location
    This would be an on-site job at our phone assembly line in Nairobi, Kenya and would come with a good compensation package. Our assembly line is in operation 24hrs therefore you would be needed to work on either night/day shift, but this would be well planned out to ensure a proper work-life balance.

    Job Responsibilities

    Assemble smartphones on the assembly line according to drawings, instructions, or schematics.
    Loading product pieces slated for assembly onto the line and packing the assembled products into boxes for storage
    Inspect the assembled finished goods and troubleshoot any issues found during production for any faults or defects.
    Recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
    Stop the assembly line and halt production if machinery fails or a major defect is detected.
    Report incidents, faulty operations, or product imperfections on the assembly line to the supervisor.
    Set up the production equipment and supplies before completing the job orders.
    Ensure that equipment is maintained in good and safe working conditions.
    Evaluate equipment performance and recommend improvements.
    Contribute to waste management programs aimed at zero defects.
    Champion and practice 6S Kaizen principles.
    Follow established safety and efficiency procedures to ensure that operations run smoothly.
    Identify and report unsafe operations to the supervisor immediately.
    Maintain the work area clean, safe, and organized.
    Work under the guidance of the supervisor to perform and complete the assigned responsibilities promptly.

    Job Requirements

    Relevant Diploma or equivalent qualification
    Knowledge in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a bonus
    Good computer and IT skills
    Experience working on an assembly line is a bonus
    Knowledge of Kaizen 6S Principles
    Understanding of production machinery and proper assembly procedures
    Excellent knowledge of manufacturing safety protocols and regulations
    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics

    Responsibilities

    Achieve and surpass sales targets of M-KOPA products.
    Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and supervise a field-based team of Direct Sales Representatives (DSR) to meet the set targets in line with M-KOPA business goals.
    Monitor and evaluate the performance of Direct Sales Representatives to meet the performance standards.
    Manage DSR inventory and resolve audit recommendations in line with M-KOPA audit resolution guidelines.
    Develop a local network to assist in growing sales volume.
