    Development of PULA’s pricing tool:
    As part of scaling its agriculture insurance products, Pula has been building an in house pricing tool and database that handles product development, data analytics and pricing for a variety of agriculture insurance products and data sources. The right candidate will be part of a team working on building this tool and will be involved in writing modules of this tool.
    As part of their daily responsibilities the Actuarial Analyst will be tasked with:

    Liaising with customers at corporate and farmer level to understand their risks and exposure;
    Managing and ensuring high quality data is collected across our countries of operations, to insure the risks the clients look to cover;
    Reviewing and analysing the data collected; developing and pricing a product;
    Developing technical notes, legal wordings, and briefs for insurers and reinsurers;
    Managing the negotiation of rates between the client, insurers and reinsurers;
    Creative thinking around analysis of customer data and visualizing this data

    The right applicant would have the following skill set:

    Pula is seeking a well-rounded, experienced Field Operations Lead to grow their agricultural insurance products. The incumbent must have a love for rural fieldwork, while also being comfortable building a cutting-edge start-up company.
    The Field Operations Leader is expected to dive-in to the details of execution in order to drive it forward effectively across Kenya: tasks will range from running large scale trainings, to doing quality check field visits, compiling data reports, writing Standard Operating Procedures, mentoring and training staff, and tracking performance in a data-driven manner.
    The position will be based in Kenya.
    A detailed Job description for the position is as follows;

    Manage a team of 100-300 staff, including several regional managers and supervisors. These team members will be executing on several pre-specified tasks across Kenya. The Lead is expected to track that all tasks are completed in due time, with high quality and high levels of customer service.
    Solve problems and build relationships with local partners such as telecom companies, insurance companies and agricultural firms, among others
    You will have to interface with our technology and product teams at times, and thus be comfortable with translating your operational observations and needs into language that they can understand.
    Manage the budget and make sound financial decisions from an operations standpoint
    Analyse data and use it to make key operational decisions
    Hire new team members and terminate non-performing staff

    A detailed Job description for the position is as follows;

    Coordination of field team funds transfer requests across borders
    Timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, requests, check runs and bank transfers; making sure that all expenditure is properly approved
    Daily checking for incoming vendor invoices from various sources and update the Accounts Payable(AP) invoice register
    Prepare A/P aging report and tax calculation as required to accompany full verified documentation, including Purchase Requisition form, Purchase Order, Goods Receipt Purchase Order, Vendor Invoice, Delivery Order, etc.
    Check if all required documents are duly signed and approved and ensure highly accurate posting of information to avoid any discrepancies or errors.
    Perform the AP Invoice process in the accounting system on a timely basis and with high accuracy, including identifying the correct cost centre for the transaction, the type of AP Invoice, the posting date of GRPO, and verifying all details are correct before submitting the payments to senior management for review/approval.
    Management of company petty cash, including voucher preparation and disbursement, reconciliation and proper handling.
    Follow up and check timely payment of all taxes and employee payroll benefits. If requested, should also contribute to monthly bank and account reconciliations.

    Pula is growing our dev team, and are looking for engineers with strong experience working as part of agile dev teams.
    Our core stack is a Django app running on AWS, with an Android app (written in native Java) that serves at the main user interface for our services. At peak times, our stack is handling thousands of insurance registrations every day across multiple geographies. Our 2019 roadmap includes expanding the feature-set and covering more geographies, and engineering excellence lies at the core of this plan.
    Our current tooling includes Slack, Jira, Gitlab & Gitlab CI, Ansible, Crashlytics, Bugfender, Sentry and others, but we’re always evolving our processes and welcome strong opinions on how to do things better.
    What we’re looking for:

    Strong Python skills, especially with using Django at scale
    Passionate about building excellent code and processes, and eagerness to learn new skills
    Experience: We’re hiring for upper-mid or senior level, so while there is no strict requirement for a certain number of years’ experience, we’re looking candidates who have worked in industry already and are ready to take it to the next level
    Comfortable writing native SQL queries
    Familiarity with Agile development processes
    AWS and DevOps familiarity is a strong bonus

    Job description
    Pula Advisors is looking for an exceptional and best-in-class Accountant to build the finance and accounting systems to support their goal of building a billion-dollar business that protects and advises rural farming communities across Africa and Asia.
    Responsibilities

    Monitor and control expenditure and budgets. Supervise collection of company debt and maintenance of debt accounts
    Monitor and analyze monthly operational results against periods and budget issue reports to management.
    Set staff targets and carries out biannual appraisals
    Monitor product accounting transactions to ensure that they are promptly and are correctly recorded.
    In charge of the invoicing process to ensure that figures are accurate, complete and timely
    Prepare performance management reports
    Review ledger postings for accuracy Verification /authorization of payments
    Monitor cash balances and recommendations for cash flow and investment management.
    Maintenance of asset registers Ensuring month end/procedures are carried out for tax valuations and depreciations
    Represent the accounting function in meetings
    Ensure vendors are paid as per the credit and contracts terms.
    Ensure Employees are paid in terms as per their employment terms.
    Ensure Compliance with Income Tax Act, VAT ACT, NHIF ACT, NSSF ACT and other regulations when making payments to employees and suppliers of goods and other services across
    Develop new and review existing finance/accounting policies and procedures and ensure any gaps are sealed.
    Responsible for quarterly financial reporting in accordance with the IFRS standards.
    Co-ordination of company audit including all subsidiaries

    Does this sound like you?

    Advanced degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field preferred; Bachelors in accounting required
    Full certification in CPA or ACCA
