    Global Programs for Research and Training is registered as an international NGO in Kenya, wholly owned and affiliated to the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
    The Ministry of Health – National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) – the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Global Programs, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are conducting an evaluation of the sustainable laboratory quality systems program implemented by PEPFAR Partners in Kenya. The objectives of the study are to determine to what extent the program achieved three key outcomes and to understand the facilitating factors, barriers, and lessons learned during the project implementation period.
    Global Programs for Research and Training is seeking qualified research assistants to conduct this study. These positions will require two-months commitment.
    The research assistants will work under the direct supervision of the study coordinator and overall supervision by principal investigators.
    Key Responsibilities:

    Attend the full study training to understand the purpose and intent of the study, as well as the plan for implementation.
    Work in close collaboration with laboratory implementing partners to ensure accuracy of abstracted data
    Collect relevant study data from sampled laboratories throughout the country
    Abstract data for sampled laboratories as shared by laboratory implementing partners
    Schedule and conduct key informant interviews
    Provide routine progress reports to the study coordinator and study co-investigators
    Ensure data quality by responding to data manager’s queries.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The selected research assistant will have the following minimum qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Medical Laboratory, Public Health or any other health‐related field.
    Knowledge and understanding of public health research issues, specifically regarding HIV/AIDS.

    Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the M&E Advisor, the M&E Officer will work with the UCSF M&E team, the Global Programs in-country M&E team and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP) Strategic Information (SI) team to:
    Support the M&E team with the development of standardized training content for HIV M&E related courses. Tasks would include the development of training materials and curriculum, workshop facilitation, support in documentation (through reports and published manuscripts), support in the development and implementation of recommendations resulting from course findings.
    Provide support in the development of e-learning materials, job aides, tool kits and standard operating procedures for HIV M&E courses. Inputs will include support in monitoring of an e-learning platform, monitoring of use of the e-learning system and dissemination of program materials to MOH and partner staff.
    Provide support in conducting data analysis on DHIS and /or DATIM HIV program data and preparation of relevant reports for national and county level dissemination. This will include downloading relevant data and providing support to county teams to develop their own reports for use in programming.
    Support implementation of evaluation studies that are being conducted by the M&E team. This includes supporting the development of study protocols, training materials, standard operating procedures, evaluation tools, piloting, training of evaluation team and monitoring of the study implementation under the supervision of the evaluation advisor.

    Minimum Requirements:

    A bachelor’s degree in public health in public health, statistics social science or relevant field is required.
    Minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in monitoring and evaluation of public health programs.
    At least three years’ experience working with MOH and/or partners’ in HIV/STI programs.
    Demonstrated working with Kenya MOH HIV program data including collecting, analysis and reporting.
    Experience in training and facilitation of courses for adult learners with varied cadres.
    Demonstrated ability in project design, data analysis, writing reports, monitoring, and evaluation of health programs.

    Global Programs seeks to recruit a highly motivated and competent Qualitative Research Assistant for a research project known as Healthy Mothers, a pilot intervention focused on food insecurity and perinatal depression among women living with HIV in Kenya. The aim of the intervention is to promote adherence to the three pillars of PMTCT (maternal ART; exclusive breastfeeding; provision of ART prophylaxis to infant) and to reduce the rates of mother to child HIV transmission in Kenya.
    The Qualitative Researcher/Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for recruitment; conducting interviews; overseeing data collection and management, transcribing and translating interviews; and ensuring that the recruitment and retention goals of the study are met. This position requires a one-year commitment.
    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Manage the implementation of the Healthy Mothers qualitative research study in line with Kenyan and US/UCSF regulations and standards.
    Coordinate and conduct qualitative research study activities including the recruitment, screening, in-depth interviews, data collection for qualitative research study participants according to the study protocol and standard operating procedures
    Participating in the data coding, analysis, and generation of analytical memos from qualitative data collected
    Adhere to the principles of ethical research according to human subject’s review protocols

    Key Requirements:
    Education

    Preferred: Master of Science or Advanced Degree in the Social Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Agriculture, Nutrition, Psychology, Public Health or other relevant field.

    Prior Work Experience:

    Participate in the development of protocols, data collection tools, and implementation of surveillance activities and surveys.
    Support data analysis, interpretation, summarization and dissemination of data from surveys and surveillance activities.

    Assist in the development, revision, evaluation and updating of surveillance systems as well as standardizing reporting procedures.

    Global Programs is recruiting for one motivated and proactive individual as an Agriculture Trainer for a research project known as Shamba Maisha. The Shamba Maisha (the Kiswahili phrase for “farming life”) study is testing the hypothesis that an agricultural and finance intervention will improve food security, prevent antiretroviral treatment failure, and improve HIV health outcomes among people living with HIV/AIDS. The position requires a six-months commitment.
    The incumbent will organise participants into functional training groups, deliver the agricultural training as per the training manual, mobilize for loan down payment, and liaise with the equity bank trainer for bank specific training, coordination and communication with study staff (Study manager, Study Coordinators, and the Research Assistants)
    The trainer will work with farmer groups to ensure they understand the theory and practice of vegetable production in order to improve participants’ health and nutrition and provide income for their families.
    Implement Shamba Maisha trainings

    Organise the enrolled participants into training groups
    Clearly communicate training schedule to farmers
    Select sites for trainings and field demonstrations
    Prepare training materials and execute trainings
    Actively participate in mobilization of down payment for the loans

    Qualifications and Experience

    A Minimum Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture or Agronomy
    Four years relevant hands-on experience working/training small holder farmers
    Excellent knowledge of all aspects of agronomy related to the cultivation (from land preparation, planting material selection to post harvest care and sale) of high value irrigated horticultural crops, including the use of organic and inorganic fertilizers and pest control, crop rotation, intercropping, etc
    Knowledge in IPM is an added advantage.
