    Introduction

    The Aga Khan University department of Pediatrics is seeking a paediatric instructor who will undertake clinical and educational functions under the supervision of the Section Head under whom he/she would be deployed. In this role, the instructor admits, consults and undertakes diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under University team or private admitting doctors. He/she may prescribe or request certain tests or perform certain procedures without supervision at the discretion of admitting doctor who is briefed on regular basis regarding plans for more complex diagnostic or management issues. Admitting doctor ultimately determines what an instructor would do or not do on his/her behalf based on the latter’s skill’s competence level.

    Responsibilities

    Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies.
    Conduct daily ward rounds and monitor patients’ progress on a regular basis.
    Initiate discussions with patient and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care services.
    Attend to critical patients in a timely manner.
    When necessary, carry out privileged and potentially lifesaving emergency medical procedures.
    Educate patients on wellness prevention and early detection of risk factors for disease (s).
    Provide materials, resources and referrals to patients, family members/care givers.
    Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
    Take role of teaching and supervising residents, SHOs and other clinical staff.
    Engage nursing and ward staff in ensuring that all treating equipment is functional and available for patient care/treatment.
    Work closely with other members of the clinical care team to reduce errors and waste, improve skillfulness and resource utilization.
    Teaching, assessment and mentorship of medical school students, interns and residents.
    Participate in developing and reviewing the syllabus for assigned teaching modules.
    Participating in Departmental Residency Training Committee (DRTC), examination and other faculty or departmental meetings as may be determined.
    Collaborate with consultants and colleagues to enable integration of clinical research activities, shared knowledge, institutional quality improvement and patient wellness activities.
    Participate in all teams’ efforts as departmental needs arise
    Carry out any other duty as may be required by the supervisor.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) or equivalent
    MMed in Paediatrics
    Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
    Emergency Paediatric Life Support (EPLS).
    Completion of 3-4 years formal Post-Graduate Medical Education in a recognized university.
    Demonstrates competency and dexterity with all equipment utilized in the hospital environment.
    Good communication skills.

    Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers/vendors through mail, email, phone, or in person and analyze them promptly in order to make effective purchasing decisions on terms and conditions of supply.
    On approval of the team leader, process the LPO
    Complete ad-hoc contract utilization reports, monthly reports, stock status reports, in-transit report, invoice report.
    Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the department supervisor/manager.

    Qualifications and skills requirements:

    Diploma in Supply Chain Management
    Bachelors’ degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
    Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) or Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM).
    At least 3 years’ experience in supply chain role preferably in a hospital environment

    Job Purpose

    The incumbent will assist in selection, smooth operation and maintenance of all radiation equipment. He/she will be responsible for treatment planning, CT simulation, dose distributions and monitor unit calculations, beam data management and consultation with Oncologists. He/she will also participate in all Quality Assurance tests of equipment to ensure conformance to quality standards, radiation safety and security policies.

    Key responsibilities

    Perform acceptance testing and commissioning along with beam data measurements, and validation before clinical use of the machine.
    Responsible for calibration of all the equipment in Radiation Therapy and overseeing quality assurance in the procedures performed and treatment provided.

    Special treatment procedures:  Assist in dose calculation formalism and performing special treatment techniques including special Dosimetry and In vivo Dosimetry.
    Implement and perform TBI and TSET techniques for EBRT patients.
    Carry out radiation surveys, oversee facility designs and personnel monitoring to ensure conformance to the standards and meeting the regulatory requirement.
    Participate in research, development and teaching along with other administrative activities.

    Qualifications, Experience and Skills required:

    M.Sc. in Physics/ Medical Physics
    Appropriate credentials as a Medical Physicist acceptable to the department
    A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Medical Physicist, preferably in a teaching hospital fully equipped with relevant imaging and radiation therapy modalities, is desirable.
    Certification with relevant board will be preferable.
    Strong clinical experience of 3DCRT, IMRT and VMAT treatment planning and delivery.
    Experience with Modern radiation techniques like SRS/SBRT with appropriate QA will be preferable.
    Having good understanding and clinical experience of gynecological and interstitial HDR brachytherapy of prostate.

    Requirements

    At least 4-5 years of progressive senior-level data management experience
    Demonstrable programming proficiency in at least 2 of the following: MS-Access, SQL-Server, MySQL, Oracle, DHIS-2, REDCap, ODK
    Training and/or demonstrable competence in any of the following statistical packages Stata, SPSS, R.
    Relevant experience in a health research environment including community and public health facility settings will be an added advantage.

    Key responsibilities

    Medication Management & Use Indicators and Inventory oversight
    Ensure availability of critical and essential medicines in the hospital.
    Monitor supplier pending orders and out of stock items, advise users on alternatives available, look up alternatives using the reference material LEXICOMP and on retained products from the PPB portal and advise PSCMD.
    Ensuring that there are adequate buffer stocks of DDA in the pharmacy and that they are received from the suppliers according to policy and immediately dispatched to the pharmacist at the main pharmacy.
    Working with the chemo pharmacy to ensure regular supply of cytotoxic drugs and following up the special chemo orders with a Leadtime.
    Informing users on the new additions to the formulary and ensuring supply.
    Submit report of fast moving and slow-moving items, dead stock to the chief pharmacist for review and action. Initiate return of slow-moving items back to the vendor.
    Compile reports of out of stock and back in stock items and submit to the manager PSCMD.
    Oversee incineration of expired drugs according to the hospital policy.
    Observing IPSG 3- storage of high alert medication in the stores and ensuring that all the look alike, sound alike and HAMS drugs are properly labelled before leaving the pharmacy stores.
    Monitoring of short expiry, and timely return to vendor and removal of expired drugs as per laid down procedures.

    Administration

    Oversee team operations, by ensuring all assigned tasks are performed to the required standard.
    Oversee that the store adheres to the required storage conditions i.e. room and cold storage temperatures;
    Goods are arranged for FIFO (first in first out), FEFO (first expiry first out)
    Goods are stacked as per instructions from the manufacturer.
    Temperature is monitored and recorded twice daily
    Procedure for storage and handling of hazardous materials is adhered to.
    Receiving medications from vendors and stacking of the same as per laid down policies
    Accurate issuance of medications to pharmacy satellites

    Quality Control

    Ensure drugs supplied adhere to internal/external regulatory bodies for instance PPB
    Ensure JCIA standards are maintained and adhered to.
    Prompt update of GRN’S
    Regular random stock counts done and records maintained
    Expiries and short expiries are closely monitored
    Conduct weekly random spot check on inventory at pharmacy stores, more so on stocks highly susceptible to variance
    Ensure that expired items are disposed as per policy

    Coordination and reporting

    Ensure stores operations are within stipulated time.
    As and when required, improve processes within the warehouse to ensure smooth operation and safe handling of stocks and inventory.
    Coordinate quarterly stock take and monitor stock reconciliation for internal satellites and outreach central store
    Ensure both PSCMD and Pharmaceutical matters are pre informed for prompt action and if need be escalated to the chief pharmacist/managers

     
    Qualifications and skills required

    Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
    Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management or a related field will be an added advantage.
