Project Health & Safety Officer

Location: Naivasha, Kenya
Reports To: EHSS Manager
The Role: This position is responsible for maintaining and improving safety in the workplace.
The holder is responsible for preventing and eliminating injury and illness to project employees and ensuring that legislation is adhered to and complied with in order to manage the planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing of the health and safety strategies.
Responsibilities
Support the mission, vision, and values of the Company.
Ensure compliance to the OSHA 2007 and related requirements, and Ormat safety procedures, Park requirements and other related statutory requirements
Assist Site Managers in the implementation of Safety Procedures within the Construction and drilling sites
Ensure organization of work i.e. preparation of site tasks and PPE
Raise awareness about safety, health and welfare and implementation of instructions
Make reports and investigations following dangerous situations, accidents and incidents
Planning safety, health and welfare inspections, toolbox meetings, safety action plans
Ensure appropriate hazard control approaches
Induction of new employees, contractors and visitors
Capitalize feedback on incidents, accidents, and near-misses
Follow safety indicators on site
Ensure appropriate waste management within site
Manage man-hours, lost time, accident incident register
Coordinate employee and contractors safety pre, periodic and post-employment medical examinations and follow-up actions as per the AHP recommendation
Ensure equipment inspections and follow-up action points
Ensure welfare facilities provision and maintenance
Carry out/coordinate regular safety inspections and implementation of action points
Link drilling and construction activities with Operations on matters relating to safety, health and welfare of the employees
Coordinate government and internal inspections on site safety
Ensure registration of worksite, contractors and any other require by the government office
Coordinate emergency drills and follow-up on action points for a safety workplace
Must be able to work weekends and holidays when necessary.
Must be able to work overtime as required.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned by Management
Education, Experience and Skills Required
Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in a drilling and or construction site in a senior position
Minimum of a diploma in occupational safety and health, technical course will be an added advantage
Positive, passionate, proactive, self-driven and ability to work under minimum supervision
Ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations
Excellent organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail and follow through skills.
Excellent Communication Skills both oral and written.
Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and use of the Internet.
Ability to multitask well and change priorities quickly.
A team player with the ability to counsel, coach and mentor staff.
Possess a high level of integrity.
Physical Requirements
The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
