Kuria Foundation for Social Enterprise (KFSE)

The Kuria Foundation for Social Enterprise (KFSE) was established in 2012 to address the challenges faced by Kenyan sexual and gender minorities (SGMs). These challenges are well known and well documented. They include the legal repression of SGMs through the criminalization of sexual expression … read morebetween consenting adults of the same sex, culturally encouraged stigma and discrimination of SGMs, high levels of physical and verbal violence, and failure to enact and implement gender-affirming policies or provide gender reaffirming services. Other challenges include widespread discrimination in access to employment, education, housing, health care, financing and other services. As a result, SGMs have a much higher risk of mental distress, mental health problems, suicidality, and lower social well-being when compared to their non-SGM counterparts.
