They include the legal repression of SGMs through the criminalization of sexual expression … read morebetween consenting adults of the same sex, culturally encouraged stigma and discrimination of SGMs, high levels of physical and verbal violence, and failure to enact and implement gender-affirming policies or provide gender reaffirming services. Other challenges include widespread discrimination in access to employment, education, housing, health care, financing and other services. As a result, SGMs have a much higher risk of mental distress, mental health problems, suicidality, and lower social well-being when compared to their non-SGM counterparts.
