Over the last two decades we have assisted over 4,000 victims of torture, cruel, degrading and inhuman treatment through the support of our national networks of professionals: doctors, trauma counsellors, lawyers, human rights monitors and journalists.
What We Do
IMLU documents torture perpetration through forensic medical reports which aids in legal redress for torture victims. It exploits legal and advocacy means to seek justice for torture survivors since 1992. With time, we have gained the capacity to rehabilitate the victims of torture through provision of medical and psychological treatment, facilitating legal action and documenting cases of torture in Kenya. In furtherance of pushing for a torture free society, IMLU aggressively campaigns against the vice through the media and other outlets.
Spanning a period of two decades, this work has been feasible via the remarkable endeavors of our network of professionals including doctors, psychological counselors, lawyers and grassroots human rights monitors and human rights defenders.

We seek to promote the rights of torture victims and protect Kenyans from all forms of state perpetrated torture by advocating for legal and policy reforms, monitoring government adherence to human rights, rehabilitating victims of torture and building capacity of key stakeholders.
Values
Our values underlie everything we do and these core values will continue guiding us as an organizing in the execution of our vision, mission and objectives. Our values are;

Courage: With confidence and relentlessness, we engage perpetrators of torture hold the state accountable and ensure justice for victims and survivors.
Compassion: We treat everyone equally and we show kindness, mercy, empathy and dedication to torture victims and survivors regardless of who they are.
Empowerment: We are committed to enhancing knowledge and skills for IMLU staff and all our stakeholders with the intention of effectively and efficiently working towards fulfilling our mission.
Our Purpose
1. Rehabilitation and legal assistance for victims of torture and their families.
2. Increase awareness on torture and contribute to advocacy strategies for torture redress.
3. Training professionals on identification and documentation of torture.
4. Raising public awareness concerning IMLU’s role and purpose in democratic Kenya.
