The role of a Design Hub Manager is varied and the skills needed for the job are extensive. As Head of Design at Jumia you need to be passionate about your brand’s identity and able to bring it alive through the onsite experience and all communication channels. You will be the voice of the creative team, always willing to express your ideas.
Design Hub Manager Job Responsibilities
Lead a team of graphic designers
Manage the design work pipeline and team capacity with a iron fist, prioritising, filtering and assessing scope consistently to ensure maximum resource efficiency
Adopting a ‘hands-on’ approach when required to help the team with concept development
Mentoring, developing and coaching the design team
Being the brand guardian and ensuring consistency across all communications and channels
Uphold delivery of quality output from the design team
Define and refine design team processes
Define and craft with Head of Marketing the brand voice
Striving for continuous improvement and excellence
Creating an inspiring and positive culture
Confident presentation of ideas to both internal and external stakeholders locally and globally
You feel confident working across mobile, digital and print
You will have an intimate understanding of latest design concepts across mobile, digital and print – Photoshop, Illustrator
Keep abreast of ever changing design and cultural trends and infuse them into the Jumia brand
Requirements for the Design Hub Manager Job
Relevant leadership experience of a Design team (6+ years of experience in Design), with some experience in e-commerce
A portfolio with a wide range of branding and product work where you’ve played a key part in leading the design team to success
Understanding of design thinking
A nuanced understanding of diverse and inclusive hiring practices
Able to attract fantastic people and inspire them to do their best work
Experience leading and collaborating with diverse teams in a dynamic environment
A strong desire to lead and inspire those around you, in and out of the design team.
Able to work in close partnership with cross-functional teams to determine the best way a design can be implemented
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A solid creative point-of-view and a collaborative nature
