The CWSB covers the following six counties in the region: Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Taita-Taveta, Lamu and Tana River. The CWSB operates under the Parent Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (MEWNR) and in accordance with:-
The provisions and regulations of the Water Act, 2002;
The State Corporation Act Cap 446;
Other Relevant Provisions of the Laws of Kenya and
Rules and Regulations given in form of circulars by the Parent Ministry and Ministry of Finance.
The Coast region covers 83,040 km2 out of which 28,450 km2 is occupied by rivers, Sea, lakes and national park, while the rest is used for agriculture, settlement and other human activities.
