    AATF is an international not-for-profit organization that facilitates, and promotes public / private partnerships to access, develop, adapt and deliver appropriate agricultural technologies for sustainable use by smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
    AATF works with African governments, private and public technology owners and developers, NGOs, seed companies and African farmers to identify and access technologies that will address farmers’ key problems and enhance their productivity. AATF is a registered charity under the laws of England and Wales and has host country status with the Government of Kenya.
    The Foundation depends on the ongoing support and collaboration of different partners and investors to meet its objectives.
    Under the supervision of the Communications & Partnerships Manager, the Digital Communications Specialist/Officer will lead in designing and implementing the Foundation’s digital media strategies and plans targeting internal and external audiences to gradually achieve desirable stakeholder engagement and traffic that will support AATF overall mandate.
    S/He will work with other members of the communications unit to produce fully integrated online and offline campaigns. The Digital Communications Officer will help develop AATF’s digital media strategy, produce engaging social media content, updated web content and oversee coordination of AATF’s social media accounts.
    Functions / Key Results Expected

    Develop, implement and monitor AATF’s digital media strategy including production of work plans and budgets, ensure content quality and delivery methods and remaining mindful of the key goal to inform, and connect with audiences to promote AATF’s mandate
    As a key member of the Communications Unit, participate in overall communications strategy and plan development processes, and guide on digital planning and editorial
    Work closely with all AATF project, program and advocacy leads to set forward-looking programming strategy for key audiences, including advising on appropriate staffing and training to ensure maximum digital skill sets across teams
    Actively seek to research projects, products, services, and current strategies to identify and utilise new opportunities for digital communications.
    Update the AATF website content including researching, writing and editing
    Oversee website design in line with AATF goals and branding
    Grow social media platforms ensuring quality content, audiences and engagement that will adequately advocate for the Foundation through content generation, editing and sharing including paid social advertising
    Moderate all user-generated content in line with agreed guidelines and support staff to successfully utilise the various platforms
    Create social media editorial calendars and syndication schedules
    Continuously improve by monitoring social media trends, identifying emerging issues and themes of interest and advising staff and management accordingly

    Corporate Competencies:

    Demonstrated passion, interest and aptitude for online communication including interest in the internet, image software and search engine optimisation
    Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders (customers, investors, research institutions, media, government institutions, etc.), and build and sustain relationships and alliances and influence growth of a social media utilisation culture

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Information Science or any other related disciplines from a recognized institution;

    Experience:

    At least Five (5) years’ experience with in-depth knowledge and understanding of digital communication platforms, Excellent writing and editing skills with ability to identify and effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format.
    Advanced visual and design skills
    Advanced knowledge of design process and print production
    Mastery of knowledge of online and new media communications tools.
    Knowledge of software applications for web based solutions, social media platforms, and apps.
    Proven ability to plan and manage cross-functional initiatives.
    Proven ability to read and interpret data for reporting.
    Proven ability to generate and present standard reports.

    Language Requirements:

    Fluency in written and spoken English. A working knowledge of French would be an added advantage

    The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established in 1979 as a Research Institute under the Science and Technology (Repealed) Act, Cap 250 Laws of Kenya and accredited to continue to operate as such under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, 2013.
     
    The Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV (EID) Program, which was started in 2006, is an essential service provided by KEMRI in support of the National Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV Program. The EID program has expanded its scope in the last decade to include viral load testing, evaluation of diagnostic technologies and HIV genotyping.
     
    The Program now wishes to recruit two (2) qualified Kenyans to fill Two Data Clerk (KMR 7) positions, based at the Nairobi and Alupe KEMRI HIV Laboratories.
    Duty Stations: Alupe and Nairobi  
    Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Laboratory Manager, the Data Clerk will support the molecular diagnostics and immunology testing work in the laboratory.
     
    Required Qualifications:

    A minimum score of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or equivalent
    Diploma in Biomedical Sciences or a related course. 
    Experience managing data in a busy environment
    A Certificate in computer applications including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

    To assist in any other duties as may be assigned by the laboratory head/manager/Director.  

    Terms of Employment:

    Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI Scheme of Service, subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance

We designed our capital and support to help ventures overcome critical barriers, professionalize faster and scale smarter. We are generating a pipeline of impactful, scalable companies that are de-risked and ready for later stage investors – and can bring idle impact investing dollars to the table.
    We’ve closed 20 investments to date across East Africa, West Africa, Latin America, and SE Asia since our founding in 2015. We have two recorded exits, >80% follow-on rate, and aim to close an additional 20+ deals through 2022. The Principal will join MCV at an inflection point with ample opportunity to influence strategy and lead the creation of MCV’s next fund.
    General Position Summary
    The Associate will join Mercy Corps Ventures’ growing Investment Team, and work in conjunction with the Principal and Partner to drive portfolio growth in Latam and Sub-Saharan Africa. He/she will work closely with Mercy Corps’ Regional leadership, field offices, technical teams, and external partners in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa to identify, evaluate, invest in and provide ongoing advisory to early stage companies that enter the investment portfolio. The role will be highly entrepreneurial, spanning emerging market venture investing, portfolio management, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on cutting edge digital tech.
    The successful candidate will be expected to lead all aspects of the investment process alongside the Principal and Partner Responsibilities include sourcing, due diligence, general market / ecosystem analysis, and post-investment technical support (as needed / demanded). He/she will be a proactive and natural networker, able to identify promising deals early and build a deep pipeline of investable opportunities.
    The Associate will work closely with local venture ecosystems in MCV target countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, where we expect to close ~15 additional investments by mid-2022. The goal is not only to invest in successful for-profit startups, but also to demonstrate that pioneering social entrepreneurs in partnership with Mercy Corps offer a new, effective pathway to achieve social impact at scale.
    Essential Job Responsibilities
    VENTURE INVESTMENT

    Foster strong relationships and strategic partnerships with incubators, accelerators, peer investors and other ecosystem actors throughout MCV target geographies, particularly in East and West Africa
    Develop a pipeline of potential investments that meet the MCV’s investment theses and criteria
    Work with field and program leadership to identify Mercy Corps programming, expertise and/or partnerships that would both add value to and benefit from linkages to entrepreneurial solutions
    Provide critical investment analysis and support throughout the deal cycle
    Assist and coordinate deal closing processes, including local legal due diligence, definitive document development, and any other regulatory requirements.

    POST-INVESTMENT SUPPORT

    In conjunction with the Head of Venture Growth, provide technical advisory / support to portfolio companies
    Actively identify and foster linkages between Mercy Corps field offices and portfolio companies that are mutually-beneficial
    Play a key role in identifying partnership opportunities and cultivating relationships with investors for follow-on funding or co-investment capital as ventures mature
    Be a hands-on player to fill any necessary gaps in enabling new investments to succeed

    Maintain strong relationships with social entrepreneurs, impact investment funds, accelerators, and other ecosystem actors in order to provide our ventures and Mercy Corps teams with resources and opportunities

    Represent MCV publicly at conferences, events, and working groups as needed.

    Knowledge and Experience

    3 to 5 years of relevant investment, management consulting and/or start-up experience (preference for candidates that have experience in emerging markets)
    Acute business acumen and a fundamental grasp of the venture capital model (prior investment experience strongly preferred)
    Strong and diverse toolkit – equally able to build a financial model from scratch for a startup in Jakarta, compile a comparative analysis of digital wallets in West Africa, or map out the artisanal mining value chain in DRC.
    Natural networker with the ability to quickly understand a context and develop an unmatched network of contacts (investors, angels, accelerators, talent, startups)
    Domain expertise in financial services, financial inclusion, fintech, agriculture / agtech, and/or crypto technologies
    Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to get things done
    Strong strategic thinking skills. Able to navigate complex environments and develop a clear, focused, and ambitious vision
    A team-oriented, “low-ego” individual who works collaboratively in a high-performance environment; just as comfortable strategizing in a boardroom with the C-team of a startup as chatting with a smallholder farmer customer in Northern Ghana
    Fluent in written and spoken English (French is a plus)

    The position location is flexible and can include one of the locations listed below. The role will require significant international travel throughout West and East Africa. Candidates must hold authorization to work in base location and work permit cannot be provided or facilitated by Mercy Corps.
