    JOB PURPOSE: 
    To provide data management support services and oversight for Kilifi Health and Demographic Surveillance Study (KHDSS)

    Key Responsibilities:

    Work with the principal investigator co-investigators and project researchers to gather requirements for KHDSS data management systems
    Prepare, update and document system requirements: overseeing design, development, testing and implementation of KHDSS data management systems
    Prepare KHDSS related datasets, code and documentation for archiving and/or publication including cleaning, collating, annotating and de-identifying data.
    Document KHDSS data management activities and standardize processes and procedure
    Provide user support for the study staff using the designed applications.
    Manage systems and tools for handling data, collecting, entering, editing, cleaning, storing, archiving, retrieving, organizing, and transferring data.
    Carry out data review, and data validation. This includes discrepancy checking and cleaning of records generated from the database etc.
    Liaise with KHDSS field manager and database administrators to rapidly resolve data queries
    Implement and enforce data security activities such as data backups, archiving and user administration.
    Extract and process requested data and generate reports to inform coordination and management of KHDSS activities.
    Prepare data and conduct preliminary and statistical analyses for KHDSS related data
    Train and prepare work plans for data clerks and supervisor
    Devise methods and procedures to best integrate the current KHDSS systems with other systems in use across the Programme.
    Design and maintain / archive / update data dictionaries and carry out data review, validation including discrepancy checking and cleaning and report generation of records generated from the databases.
    Generate reports including verification error reports, comments reports, constraint reports, and lists of all problems experienced in KHDSS as regards to data collection.
    And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Sciences/Information Science or Information Technology or in a relevant field
    At least three (3) years experience in managing longitudinal databases
    At least two (2) years supervisory experience an added advantage
    Knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MSSQL
    Excellent skills in systems analysis, data management, database design and structures.
    Statistics experience with Stata or R or SPSS or SAS.

    Competencies:

    Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Sciences/Information Science or Information Technology or in a relevant field
    At least three (3) years experience in managing longitudinal databases

    JOB DIMENSIONS:
    The Health Services & Implementation Cluster comprises a multi-disciplinary team based in Nairobi. It works closely with the Kenya Paediatric Association, the University of Nairobi, the Ministry of Health and multiple county hospitals in a collaboration called the Clinical Information Network (CIN). The CIN has worked for 10 years to improve paediatric and neonatal inpatient care. Going forward the CIN would like to extend its work to develop a better understanding of the quality of neonatal care and the outcomes of those admitted to newborn units while also developing and testing implementation strategies to improve care.
    The CIN (Neonatal) team are looking for a medical officer to help develop new areas of neonatal research. The individual will work with a team of scientists and under the supervision of clinical and non-clinical post-doctoral scientists leading CIN and related research. In particular, the individual is expected to help sustain the collection of high-quality routine data by collaborating with CIN hospital clinicians and hospitals’ information officers so that the CIN platform can support improvement work and evaluation of outcomes and interventions. To do this they will liaise with senior hospital staff and policy-makers and managers at county and national levels too. While doing this they will be expected to learn the principles of data management, data quality assurance, quality measurement and quality improvement.
    The individual will also be expected, under supervision, to conduct formative research that will support the development of new research proposals. Potential topic areas include: pragmatic clinical trials (eg.of emollient therapy or antibiotic regimens); implementation of bedside diagnostic technologies, or implementing better clinical practices (eg. optimizing newborn feeding). Specific roles will include:
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Help manage the CIN-N data collection process, ensure the high quality of data, continue to improve the data systems and ensure these are adequately documented and ensure the production of timely hospital feedback reports and aggregate hospital reports for sharing with hospitals and other national stakeholders.
    Help update / adapt the CIN-N data collection system so that it meets the needs of CIN hospitals and new projects
    Work closely with CIN team members and assume some supervisory responsibility for ensuring hospital clerks are effectively managed. This work may include travel to county hospital sites and hardware installation and management.
    Liaise with senior CIN team members, county hospitals’ hospital management teams, paediatricians, senior nurses and HRIOs to ensure the smooth running of the CIN-N
    Ensure the production of reports using CIN-N data for Principal Investigators and for project funders as required
    Help present the data emerging from the CIN-N at internal meetings, in hospitals, and to national and international partners
    Develop one topic and draft a report / scientific manuscript using the CIN-N data to develop analytic and scientific writing skills
    Develop a specific epidemiological / implementation research project as guided senior team members and work towards developing a proposal for future research

    As part of a wider contribution to the KWTRP research programme in Nairobi the post-holder may partake in or help conduct internal epidemiological methodological workshops and shared learning sessions and will be expected to contribute to and help organise internal seminars and journal clubs and provide peer review of emerging proposals within KWTRP together with other senior scientists.
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    MBChB or equivalent and should have completed internship
    A licensed Kenyan Medical practitioner
    At least two years post-qualification experience in medical practice
    Current registration Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Board
    Demonstrable experience in research including roles in data collection, health data analysis and report writing.
    Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and certification

    DESIRABLE:

    Strong practical foundation in data collection and quality control, data management, data visualization
    Completion of at least 1 year of work as a medical officer
    Some skills in use of a statistical programme (‘R’ is preferred)
    Experience of using REDCap or of similar data capture tools
    Understanding of DHIS2 and the Kenyan Health Information System
    Evidence of ability to write scientific proposals or for peer-reviewed research publications
    Clear interest in health services or implementation research
    Prior work on team based projects and demonstrable organizational skills and experience managing junior team members

    Responsibilities

    Support the preparation and organisation of meetings, training activities and other events including preparing summaries, minutes and reports.
    Conduct research on legal aspects of crime prevention and criminal justice reform and contribute to the preparation of UNODC publications, background notes, reports, briefing materials, presentations, talking points and speeches;
    Conduct research and compile information from multiple sources for use in reports, briefs, speeches, presentations, infographics etc.
    Assist in staff members’ preparation of technical assistance missions, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences, including support to field offices;

    The role of the Information. Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) Project Coordinator is to implement the delegated ICLA project portfolio in Kakuma.  The ICLA Project Coordinator has overall responsible for the successful implementation of ICLA projects in Kakuma in compliance with NRC policies, guidance, and procedures.  This includes the day-to-day management of all ICLA staff and through successful utilisation of the Project Cycle Management (PCM) frameworks for the delivery of timely and quality projects. The Project Coordinator will contribute to ICLA strategy development and building ICLA projects in Kakuma through supporting identifying gaps and proposal development.
    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Ensure use of Project Cycle Management (PCM) systems and tools for the management and implementation of delegated portfolio of ICLA projects (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements.
    Overall responsibility for ensuring quality monitoring, evaluation and learning with support of the M&E team at field and Nairobi levels. 
    Provide regular progress reports to the AM and ICLA Specialist  
    Line management of ICLA project field staff and community staff to create effective team environment.
    Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and donor requirements
    Represent NRC at the relevant inter-agency forums and with local authorities
    Contribute to ICLA strategy development, project proposals and provide analysis on needs and gaps. Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in activities

    Specific responsibilities

    Contribute to preparation of donor proposals.
    Developing, adapting and ensuring compliance with NRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines and tools in relation to provision of quality information, counseling, legal assistance and referral activities.
    Oversight to ensure quality of the provision of information and outreach opportunities, direct counseling and legal assistance services by ICLA and coordination with partners on complementary services.
    Meeting regularly with refugee and host community representatives to explain NRC’s ICLA activities and engage them in project implementation.
    Ensuring that NRC engages in protection sector and other relevant working groups and coordination and developing both internal and external protection referral pathways.
    Ensure the testing, adaption and use of client intake and case management forms for counseling, legal assistance and referral services and ensure confidentiality and protection of client data.  .
    Support the conducting of awareness raising, capacity building and training activities for communities, government officials and NGOs on ICLA thematic areas including housing, land and property rights and collaborative dispute resolution.
    Prepare and compile weekly, monthly, and mid and end term reports for AM, APM and Specialist
    Manage the sector budgets and ensure that over and underutilization is controlled
    Prepare and oversee ICLA continuous assessments, mapping and investigation and supervise data collection during ICLA surveys and assessments
    Manage staff expectations through regular dialogue/meetings and information sharing
    Any other tasks as assigned by line manager.  

    QUALIFICATIONS

    University degree in law, political science, social science or other relevant discipline.
    Minimum 5 years humanitarian experience with refugees/internally displaced persons (IDPs) at field level with an NGO or other international organization.
    Good understanding of the refugee context in Kenya
    Experience in PCM, M&E reporting
    Technical experience in delivery of training, client management including information, counselling and legal assistance and case management
