    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Director of Physical Planning will be responsible to the chief officer for the organization, management and administration of the physical planning  function.

    The County Director of Physical and Land Use Planning shall be responsible for: 

    Advising the county government on physical and land use planning matters that impact the county;
    Formulating county physical and land use planning policies. guidelines and standards;
    Preparation of county physical and land use development plans;
    Preparation of local physical and land use development plans;
    Participating in the preparation of inter-county physical and land use development plans;
    Undertaking research on matters relating to physical and land use development planning at the county level;
    Recommending to the County Government the establishment of planning units as may be necessary;
    Maintaining a land information system to guide physical and land use planning;
    Communicating decisions of the County Government development applications; and
    Issuance of development permission and other development control instruments under physical planning & land use act with the approval of the county executive committee member.

    Requirements for appointment.

    A person is qualified for appointment as the County Director of Physical and Land Use Planning if that person—
    Is a citizen of Kenya;
    Holds a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning or related discipline from a recognized university;
    In addition to (ii) above, holds a Masters Degree;
    Is registered as a physical planner under the Physical Planners Registration Act, 1996 (No. 3 of 1996) and is in good standing with the relevant professional body;
    Certificate in Strategic leadership Development Programme (SLDP) Course from a recognized institution OR its equivalent will be an added advantage;
    Has at least five years’ post-qualification professional experience in physical and land use planning;
    Has worked in senior management position for a period not less than three years.
    Is not otherwise disqualified under the provisions of Chapter Six of the

    The positions

    The MSc students will play a pivotal role in the “Go Heal Mastitis” project, a collaborative effort with Laval University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). This groundbreaking initiative seeks to pioneer a phage-based intervention to combat mastitis in goats and mitigate the dependency on antibiotics in Kenyan goat farming. Engaging actively in the project, students will undertake tasks including isolating mastitis-causing bacteria such as Staphylococcus sp. and identifying bacteriophages (phages) tailored to combat these bacterial strains. Their primary focus will be on the comprehensive characterization of these bacterial isolates and phages, encompassing both in vitro and in vivo   experiments.

    Terms and reference

    Collaborate with supervisor(s), to design and develop MSc research proposals that outlines the objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes of the study.
    Isolate of Staphylococcus sp. strains.
    Isolate Staph-specific phages.
    Characterize the bacteriophages.
    Assess the antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus sp. strains and the presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes in these isolates.
    Evaluate the ability of key phages to reduce mastitis in animal models.
    Utilize statistical tools to analyze the data, interpret findings, and draw meaningful conclusions from the study.
    Prepare reports, publications, and conference presentations to share the results of the study with the scientific community and relevant stakeholders.
    Effectively manage project timelines, budgets, and resources allocated to the study.

    Minimum requirements for the ideal candidate

    BSc degree in microbiology and immunology, biochemistry, or molecular biology.
    Work experience (1+ years) in a microbiology laboratory, with training in bacterial culture and molecular biology assays such as PCR/qPCR   is an added advantage.
    Experience working with phages is an added advantage.
    Completed coursework at JKUAT in an MSc degree in the stated related fields above is an added advantage.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
    Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and take the lead in research activities.

    The incumbent will assist the Programme Management Officer with day to day administrative support to programme activities related to countering Transnational Organized Crime and terrorism in Eastern Africa. Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties:

    CLASSIFICATION   

    Assists in reviewing and processing requests for classification. Provides advice and answers general queries on classification procedures and processes.   

    GENERAL

    Provides general office support services; drafts and/or processes a variety of correspondence and other communications. Sets up and maintains reference files/records (electronic and paper). Schedules appointments/meetings, monitors deadlines, etc. Undertakes research on a range of HR related issues and assists in the preparation of notes/reports. Maintains automated database containing HR related statistics and prepares periodic reports. Assists in the preparation of necessary documentation for distribution to various offices, departments and overseas offices. Performs a variety of administrative duties (e.g. leave recording, request for office supplies and equipment, etc.). May provide guidance/training to less experienced staff. Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.Ensures that requirements and background information used for data analysis are documented. Performs other duties as required.

    Education

    Completion of secondary education or equivalent is required.  Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration and other related area is desirable.

    Job – Specific Qualification

    Relevant training in administration, human resources management or related area is desirable.    

    Work Experience

    A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in general office support, administrative support and project management support functions is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first level University degree. Experience working with Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience in using web-based or integrated information management systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is desirable. One (1) year of experience within the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages

    For the post advertised, fluency in English required and knowledge of a local language is an advantage.  NOTE: ‘Fluency’ equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ‘Knowledge of’ equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
