    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Plan, deliver and facilitate dynamic, active, and creative Mathematics lessons for diverse classes of students aged 10-15.
    Review and monitor the progress of all students and identify their individual learning needs. Differentiate instruction to meet those needs of the students, providing extra support to those students who are below grade level.
    Sensitively and appropriately provide pastoral care to our students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Handle urgent situations with consummate professionalism and in accordance with our Discipline Policy and Safeguarding Policy, utilising the school’s support network as necessary.
    Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, recording and reporting grades and performance.
    Attend and participate in regular professional development activities.
    Help our school excel with your participation and leadership in community engagement, competitions, school trips and other activities.
    Contribute to the development and leadership of our extracurricular programmes.
    Under the supervision of the Head of Teaching and Learning, provide feedback on quality and wellbeing to ensure programmes are designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to maximise positive impact on vulnerable children.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

    Excellent written and oral English
    Academic or Professional Certificates;
    Completion of CRB/Background check;
    Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Teaching, Education or equivalent
    At least two years of teaching experience;
    Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;
    Ability to mentor students on a daily basis;
    Resilience in a challenging and changing environment;
    The curiosity and willingness to develop and practice modern teaching techniques;
    Determined team player.

    The purpose of this role is to:

    To support a coherent and coordinated policy and research activities that assist FTA grow its influence  and visibility in Africa;
    To promote and maintain relationships with key audiences including producers, policy makers and other  external agencies in Africa related to policy and advocacy;
    To provide capacity strengthening and technical support to policy, research, and advocacy initiatives in 

    Key Performance Areas
    Policy and Research 

    Lead policy relevant analysis and research, contributing to the development Policy Advocacy publications (position papers, petitions etc.); 
    Support and develop the capacity of FTA staff to generate materials and conduct other desk-based research  and policy analyses; 
    Track and analyze country, regional, continental, and global policy and advocacy environment,recommending strategic opportunities for FTA engagement and undertake country specific analysis;
    Support the implementation of a MEL system to track the output, outcomes, and impact of FTA’s Policy Advocacy work;

    Advocacy

    Lead initiatives to build the capacity of FTA staff and producer organizations to more effectively engage in advocacy, strengthen linkages with key advocacy stakeholders in core supply chains;
    Identify, and participate in networks in established FTA priority areas for Fairtrade certified products with relevant stakeholders and partners, providing salient information on a continuous basis;
    Network with continental stakeholders to build strategic relationships and deepen FTA understanding of key policy issues and advocacy opportunities in core supply chains;
    Represent FTA in relevant governance, planning, intelligence and lobby meetings of umbrella organizations and coalitions related to core supply chains;

    Knowledge Management and Information Sharing 

    Support the collection and documentation of impact stories for sharing, learning and advocacy;
    Contribute to the drafting of written materials and copy for social media as well as supporting digital communications; 
    In collaboration with the regional teams and key FTA stakeholders, identify and lead resource mobilization development opportunities contributing to concept and proposal development and donor reports;
    Establish and maintain all documentation, data and information systems related to research, policy and advocacy;
    Develop policy and research tools, frameworks, and curriculum to strengthen the advocacy capacity of FTA staff and producer networks;

    Resource Mobilization and Sustainability Initiatives

    Support advocacy related resource mobilization initiatives- identify and facilitate opportunities for  relationship building and proposal development with key donors;
    Develop and manage strategic partnerships with CSOs, and development agencies to leverage FTA’s  advocacy work in competitive calls for advocacy related proposals;
    Support positioning of advocacy work around sustainability issues such as climate support FTA make  progress on its ongoing commitment to become a more sustainable and socially responsible company.

    Qualifications

    Advanced Degree in a relevant subjects (Public Policy, Political Science, etc.)
    Certification in research methods, policy or advocacy and related subjects

    Experience and Knowledge

    10 years’+ experience implementing research, policy, and advocacy initiatives in a not-for-profit  organization;
    Experience in capacity building of CSOs, etc.
    Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies;
    Experience conducting policy analysis and synthesizing technical information and materials for decision  making for advocacy actions;
    Experience in management or coordination of research, policy, and advocacy-related events;
    Knowledge of key international, regional sustainable goals agreements and conventions.

    Skills

    Fluent in English and excellent written communication for a range of audiences
    Strong research and policy development skills
    Excellent trainer with presentation, training, and facilitation skills 
    Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
    Strong planning and project management skills

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Specific responsibilities include:

    Conducting engineering, topographical and physical surveys of sites for preparation of site plans and topographical maps for DCC and development purposes.
    Coordinating the development and review of policies, plans and strategies on surveying, GIS and mapping.
    Interface with civil engineers, landscape architects, cartographers, urban planners etc.
    Providing guidance on standardization, procurement, certification and usage of survey equipment.
    Research previous survey evidence, including maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records, to obtain data needed for surveys and decision-making.
    Supervising and undertaking quality control of outsourced survey services and monitoring and evaluating the survey and mapping activities.
    Preparing departmental survey budgets, monitoring and evaluating budget control measures.
    Advising the DCC, Construction and Development, Legal and Sales teams about technical matters related to the viability of construction plans.
    Preparing and sharing relevant periodic reports with the line manager and senior management team whenever needed.
    Any other relevant responsibility as may be assigned by the line manager

    REQUIREMENTS
    Hard skills and experience:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying and or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
    A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience
    Valid Practicing License from Lands Surveyor’s Board (LSB) of Kenya
    Full membership with the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) (Land Surveyors Chapter)

    In its strategic plan, ACTS recognizes the critical importance of technology transfer and commercialization of innovations in the realization of sustainable development goals. ACTS will do this through two critical new innovations:

    An institute based in Konza, to be built within the next three years, to provide a centre of excellence in consulting services to African Government and Business, with a particular focus on the application of data science.
    A team to help commercialise the technology and IP that has been developed within ACTS and use it to derive additional income for the organisation.

    To support these, ACTS has introduced a new senior role, the Strategic Business Development Manager, reporting directly to the Executive Director of ACTS. The successful candidate will bring commercial skill and acumen to package key ACTS projects with near-market potential into viable business proposals and drive their implementation as well as drive the commercial realisation of the Konza institute, including marketing strategy, stakeholder engagement, financial modelling, fundraising and execution support.
    The Strategic Business Development Manager will be required to:

    Coordinate the implementation of ACTS Konza Business Plan (2023-2026) including proposition articulation, partner identification and outreach, marketing, investment fundraising, commercial oversight.
    Be the commercial face of the ACTS Konza Institute and ensure that the Institute becomes internationally recognised as a centre of excellence and the “go to” organisation in Africa for the application of advanced data science.
    In collaboration with researchers, formulate and successfully implement business plans for ACTS internal IP for exploitation as companies, joint ventures or other collaborative activities and secure the investment finance needed to grow these opportunities.
    Coordinate ACTS consultancy services in support of the above goals.
    Over time, build a commercial team to deliver the above goals.
    Proactively guide and build the internal (ACTS Staff) capacity on enterprise development, commercialization, and investment readiness.

     IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

    BSc and MSc in a relevant scientific, engineering or business management subject. An MBA is highly desirable.
    At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in senior business development, consulting and strategic planning.
    Proven track record of investment finance raising from major corporates / donors / funders both in the commercial sector and those related to research and commercialization of technology innovations.
    Sound financial skills and the ability to create clear and compelling business cases. The candidate should be fully conversant with business modelling and creation of financial plans including P&L, cashflow and balance sheet projections.
    A good technical understanding and an ability to work with researchers and innovators to develop ideas and identify the overlap between potential solutions and established problems.
    An understanding of the technology innovation and  commercialization context in Africa is an added advantage.
    Experience working with STI think tanks Regionally and Globally would be an advantage but is not essential
    Self-driven with the ability to work independently and lead teams to deliver on strategic goals.
    Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating the development of major investment proposals to corporate entities, institutional, trust, foundations and philanthropic donors.
    Excellent communication skills, able to interact with individuals at the highest levels in Government and the commercial sector (Ministerial / Board levels)
    Ability to create clear and compelling proposals in powerpoint and as written documents
    Highly developed international networking skills and ability to form productive working relationships with a wide range of internal colleagues and stakeholders.
    Experience in project and change management related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results.
    A high degree of attention to detail and the ability to lead key tasks (e.g proposal development) to on-time completion under significant pressure.
    Knowledge of the application of Intellectual Property Rights and licensing is highly desirable.
