    Agricultural Economist (Evidence Creation and Reporting)

    To support the scale of these successful interventions and business models, WFP seeks a dedicated professional to support the Food Systems and Resilience team in Nairobi to create the evidence for designing new business cases and proposals, manage research partnerships, guide monitoring processes, prepare donor reports, manage unit communication and visibility, documenting and sharing best practices, and support in maintaining and establishing efficient business processes.
    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    Ensure cross-learning and close interactions across FtMA project areas and the arid counties, where the FSC model is being scaled-up (including the documentation of success stories and best practices). 
    Support the technical units on key programmatic areas including but not limited to gender transformation and youth empowerment.
    Produce and review analyses, strategies, and papers for WFP’s climate resilience and food systems interventions.
    Generate analysis that investigates cost-benefit of different intervention packages, return of investments and related research question
    Create evidence generation and knowledge management strategy for the climate, food system and resilience portfolio   
    Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities under Outcome 2 in close collaboration with the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer.
    Coordinate and draft the development of funding proposals and concept notes as required and support on ad-hoc donor engagements.
    Produce corporate reporting products and donor reports in close collaboration with technical units.
    Develop and maintain relevant partnerships with private sector, research institutions and Government of Kenya.
    Create content for communication for internal and external channels, working closely with WFP communications unit.
    Support the development of tools and processes to manage FSC performance and ensure intended smallholder impact is achieved.

    OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Evidence created that supports the development of new business cases (including return of investment studies).
    Timely and quality corporate/donor reports and proposals and other communication materials produced.
    Efficient climate, food system and resilience knowledge management system established and corporate monitoring and evaluation processes supported
    Rural entrepreneurs’ models within operational areas mapped out.
    Experience setting-up scalable and sustainable middle and last mile value chain solutions targeting small holder farmers and other actors along the value-chain of advantage
    Demonstrated ability to engage with public and private entities, planning and working together
    Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations across multi-functional teams as well as with a results-oriented private sector, research, think tanks and other key stakeholders
    Solid operational skills including creative thinking, problem solving and project management skills
    Resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, tact, and negotiating skills.
    Strong presentation skills and experience in public speaking of advantage.
    Ability to frequently travel within the country.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

    Excellent analytical, communication and report-writing skills
    Ability to conduct economic and analysis, including cost-benefit analysis, preferably in the agriculture, water and land management sector
    Experience in proposal development as well as monitoring and reporting processes and ability to create/manage databases
    Experience working with agro- and agro-pastoral/pastoral communities and organizations, and designing and implementing development projects

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience : At least five (5) years of experience in agribusiness, either in private sector enterprises or in non-profit value chain related projects, with exposure to the private sector segment and research institutions.
    Language: Fluency (oral and written) in English and Kiswahili necessary; proficiency in other languages spoken regionally in Kenya is an asset.

    Purpose of the position
    The Regulatory Sciences department provides strategic regulatory guidance throughout the different stages of development, managing global regulatory activities for the DNDi portfolio in collaboration with the project teams in order to ensure timely availability to the patients where they need treatments, and interacts effectively with several partners and stakeholders to ensure that DNDi’s mission is fully reflected in the agreed regulatory strategy.
    The Regulatory Sciences consultant provides support to achieve Regulatory Sciences department goals.
    Specific job responsibilities

    Project Regulatory lead

    Accountable for managing projects and delivering quality output through expert services Coordinates regulatory activities in core team

    Provides timely regulatory support and advice to disease and regional clinical operations on clinical trial requirements and dossier requirements for national and regional submissions

    Monitors progress of assigned regulatory projects/deliverables within established timeframes- Ensures appropriate filing & archiving- S/he ensures timely update in the regulatory data base ( sharepoint, veeva…)

    Develops strategic plans and regulatory risk assessments and create innovative regulatory solutions

    Pro actively addresses issues, gaps, options and trade-offs

    Provides timely regulatory support and advice to disease and regional clinical operations on clinical trial requirements and dossier requirements for national and regional submissions – Participates in the review of non-clinical and clinical study protocols to ensure alignment with global regulatory requirements and provides high level output

    Interactions with Health authorities

    Develops global regulatory strategy and plans for health authorities 

    Supports the preparatory activities including briefing package writing for interactions with regulatory authorities and lead or co-lead face to face meetings

    Regulatory excellence and compliance with regulatory and DNDI policies

    Drives proactively to  ensure regulatory excellence

    Prepares and update SOPs

    Conducts training and education to increase regulatory compliance at DNDi

    Timely experience shared with regulatory team

    Regulatory intelligence and policy

    Responsible for the regulatory watch of African Countries (east and southern Africa in particular)  in order to identify any change having an impact on the product development and /or leading to new regulatory activities

    Represents DNDi at KAPI discussions or with any stakeholders by 1) consolidating lists of questions for DNDi 2) getting feedback and 3) providing meeting notes within 4 days

    Analyses, formulates and presents recommendations related to regional regulatory affairs to advice teams

    Regulatory Sciences Team support

    May support Head of Regulatory Affairs in other delegated tasks (not specific to  Africa)

    Actively supports the objectives and activities of the regulatory team

    Ensures compliance and adherence regulatory and DNDi standards.

    Reporting line

    The Regulatory Sciences Consultant reports to the Head of Regulatory Affairs based in Geneva.
    Close working relationship with the assigned disease and clinical operation regional teams to deliver new treatments for neglected diseases in the DNDi portfolio.

    Job requirements
    Skills and attributes

    Strong knowledge of African Regulatory environment of Drug development & registration; understanding of regulations, laws, guidelines and requirements
    Experience to support local clinical trials from submission to studies completion
    Experience of interacting with different regulatory authorities in Africa and other countries. Experience with stringent regulatory authorities (EMA, FDA…) and joined regional initiatives will be an advantage
    Experience to coordinate projects, monitoring milestones, to achieve objectives under ambitious timelines

    Responsibilities

    Works with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of the climate and Water workstream of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Congo project, providing a liaison function with the other workstreams of the project, to support the coordination office in the Congo’s support and connect to UNEP’s implementing and collaborating partners including the UNEP- Danish Hydrological Institute (DHI) Centre on Water and Environment and Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
    Monitors and analyzes specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
    Assists the freshwater unit with the design and dissemination of global freshwater data collection tools and methodologies; specifically related to the global data drives for the three Sustainable Development Goal (SDG6) indicators within UN Environment’s custodianship – including identifying and liaising directly with national indicator and SDG6 focal points, communicates data requests and disseminating indicator methodologies, guidance and complementary training and resource materials, as well as data reporting processes and procedures.
    Contributes to the day to day running of a help desk system to manage data submissions and country queries and supports coordination with technical expert partners during the global data drive in 2020.
    Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, by gathering inputs, providing edits and contributing to the preparation of reports and other materials related to SDG indicators and targets.

    Work Experience

    A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Environmental management, water management or related fields is required.
    Experience working in international and intergovernmental settings is desirable.
    Experience of project work in developing countries on water issues is desirable.
    Experience of supporting capacity building activities is desirable.
    Experience of working with data bases, statistics and working with global data sets, including satellite-based data is desirable.
    One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable (none if successful YPP or P-1 with a related degree).
