Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation (M4H) is a FCDO funded programme with a mission to accelerate the delivery and impact of digital humanitarian assistance. We aim to reach 7 million people with improved access to and use of life-enhancing mobile-enabled services during humanitarian and disaster preparedness, response and recovery by 2022. We will achieve this by building bridges between the mobile industry and humanitarian sector, catalysing innovative solutions, developing insights and tools and investing in new partnerships and services. Our aim is to help shape an inclusive, impactful digital humanitarian future.

About the Role

The Insights Analyst will be involved in the breadth of the multifaceted M4H Research and Insights work-stream, as well as supporting on MEL (monitoring, evaluation and learning) activity across our portfolio of work.

 

The Research and Insights stream’s function is to build a robust evidence base, seeking to answer the programme’s learning agenda questions in order to inform appropriate digitisation of the humanitarian sector. This is done through the delivery of bespoke research projects (often in partnership with mobile network operators, UN agencies or INGOs) as well as working to disseminate key insights to key stakeholders across the humanitarian and telecommunication sectors. The Insights analyst will play an important support function working with other members of the insights team to capture, analyse, shape and disseminate data and evidence from the M4H portfolio projects, including both innovation fund and strategic partnership projects.

The Insights Analyst will also support the application of the MEL framework (where required) to facilitate cross-programme learning and development. This will likely include supporting the delivery of reflective cross-programme workshops, synthesising and interrogating programme monitoring data or supporting in the delivery of discrete outcomes evaluation projects on behalf of on-the-ground services that M4H either funds or supports.

Responsibilities

Supporting Insight Managers in the delivery of high quality research, evaluation and analysis.
Delivering discrete projects and tasks (including quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as conducting desk reviews) where directed.
Providing project management support across multiple projects to ensure timely delivery of high quality outputs.
Quality assuring supplier work and ensuring outputs are high quality and in line with GSMA messaging and branding.
Supporting the production of high-quality research outputs, including drafting sections of research reports.
Packaging and visualising research findings for stakeholders to aid in evidence based decision making.
Facilitating cross-programme learning through sharing findings and supporting the delivery of workshops.
Engaging with partners, suppliers and stakeholders where appropriate in a professional and productive manner.
Being an advocate for evidence based decision making across the programme.

About You

You have a background in research, with a solid grounding in both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
You either have experience in or have a willingness to learn key evaluation approaches and tools.
You have experience in the sectors we work across (Telecommunications, Development, Humanitarian) oran interest and willingness to learn.
You have experience of and enthusiasm for promoting the use of evidence to improve decision-making on projects or programmes.
You are happy working independently, but proactively seek guidance when needed.
You understand that your work needs to consider the needs of a range of stakeholders and can balance priorities across competing tasks.
You are an effective and tactful communicator and are happy working collaboratively with multicultural and geographically spread-out teams.
You appreciate the potential of the private sector and mobile technology in delivering impactful digital services in humanitarian contexts.
A very strong grasp of the English language, able to express complex technical, commercial or regulatory issues in plain language; additional language skills are desirable but not required.
Existing authorisation to work in the UK or Kenya.
