BURN is now poised to bring a new range of electric, hybrid, and liquid fuel stoves to Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. Over the next 3 years, BURN plans to enter 6 new countries and launch 5+ new products. We are seeking a software engineer to assist us with developing a Pay-As-You-Go platform for product sales. This is a full-time position for a period of 6 months, with possibility of extension.
Responsibilities: Work across client and back end software as necessary to develop and test a remote data logging and payment processing platform for BURN’s products.
Integrate payment processing with multiple mobile network operators (e.g. MPESA APIs) into the system. To work in countries with different payment platforms and service providers.
Design and manage back end and front end protocols for efficient communication & data transfer.
Design and test user experience with target customers.
Communicate effectively in a team setting.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or similar, or extensive work experience and portfolio
3+ years of software development experience
Ability to work in a team setting, but without many other software engineers
Knowledge in multiple server-side, database & scripting languages – PHP, MySQL, Python, JavaScript, Ajax is desirable
Experience in firmware development, C/C++ is desirable
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills, in English

Preferred:
Knowledge and experience with designing PAYG platforms & integrating APIs
