The position is based in Baringo County. The project aims to provide technical assistance and support to scale up evidence-based maternal, newborn, and child health interventions; family planning and reproductive health services; and nutrition activities in focus geographical areas.
Improve access to maternal, new born and child health services through infrastructure improvement, referral system, triggers to deliver in health facilities (eg mama packs), capacity building of healthcare workers and outreach services.
Increase demand for maternal, new born and child health services through reviving community health units, capacity building of community health volunteers, community engagement through opinion leaders, incentivize and monitoring of community health volunteers.
Advocate for improved maternal, new born and child health services through establishment Baringo. County maternal and child health stakeholder forum/technical working group, identification and engaging in key maternal, new born and child health policy issues.
To ensure improved efficiency in operations and achievement of results, use mobile technology as an enabler.
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide technical leadership in the implementation of RMNCH strategy and community strategy response.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocacy at the County level for increased investment in RMNCH and equity in distribution of resources
Strengthen advocacy at the County Assembly level for financial and human resources for health- dialogue meetings with County assembly;
Advocacy for change of behavior on harmful cultural practices (teenage pregnancies, female genital mutilation) – monthly dialogue meetings with community leaders, Barazas.
Educate the community on sexual and reproductive health and rights
Draft the community health Bill to institutionalize community health volunteers
Ensure that community advocacy RMNCH indicator adhere to the appropriate strategies and remains technically sound.**
Represents the project at professional meetings and conferences.
Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
Excellent technical skills e.g. community health strategies or social mobilization.
Sensitivity of cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues surrounding RMNCH.
Ability to work with others and maintain compatibility among project staff, sub-contractors, consultants and recipients of assistance.
Ability to work with minimum supervision, team player with drive and initiative.
Ability to travel regionally, nationally and internationally as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS STANDARDS:
Bachelor’s degree (added advantage) in relevant field with 7-9 years’ relevant experience in RMNCH.
Must be a Registered Clinical Officer
Trainer of Trainers Bemonc and Cemonc
Experience in mortality audit.
Experience continuous quality control implementation in RMNCH.
High level county engagements.
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in working with multi-cultural communities is an added advantage.
Excellent computer skills in MS Office Suite.
Working knowledge of Kiswahili is crucial.
