This leadership role guides the overall vision for the hub and its growth in the region we shift the working relationships with Habitat for Humanity national organizations and build a stronger brand regionally. The hub serves as the managing body for operations across the East African market, including national organizations and branches in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Malawi.
This job is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with expected international travel between 30-40%.
About Hub Operations
The function of a hub is to augment capacity in Habitat for Humanity national organizations by:
Driving the development and implementation of a regional strategy for impact and growth
Coordinating and building stronger networks and brand recognition among local governments, partner organizations and institutional donors in the region
Developing deployable capacity to support better business development and program design at national levels
Developing deployable capacity for project-based operations, to help national organizations surge when launching new programs
Key Responsibilities
Lead the installation and establishment of hub operations in East Africa, in line with the model developed through HFHI’s Global Impact 2025 initiative
Develop and drive a regional strategy for expanding Habitat’s impact in collaboration with national programs, global technical advisors, global fundraising and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) area leadership
Develop and grow relationships with institutional donors operating in the region
Contribute to the overall leadership and management of Habitat’s operations in EMEA as a member of the Area Management Team
Manage relationships with and build capacity in local Boards of Directors in Habitat entities in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Malawi
Build and manage a team of professionals in line with the vision of the hub
Cross-functional supervision of staff reporting to global teams but co-located within the hub
General leadership and representation of Habitat’s brand in East Africa
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Policy, Urban Planning, or related field
10+ years of related experience, including regional experience in East Africa
5+ years of experience in management
Experience with institutional donors such as USAID, European Commission and DFID, with a proven record of both winning and executing projects
Management of teams and experience operating in a matrix structure
Fluency in English
Travel between 30-40% internationally

Preferred
Master’s degree in related field
Technical background in urban planning, housing policy, international development or related field
Experience operating within a federated network
