Director General

The Authority invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director General to provide sound leadership and overall management of the Resources of the Authority including financial, human resource and physical resources.
Job Profile
The Director General will be responsible for:

Authority’s day to day operations
Providing leadership to management and staff
Ensuring coordinated implementation and effective monitoring and enforcement of environmental management policies, laws and programs in the Country.
Developing and recommending to the Board the long term strategy, business plans and annual operating budgets of the Authority and ensuring their implementation.
Making briefs to the Board of Management and the Ministry for Environment and Forestry on emerging environmental challenges and issues requiring policy intervention.
Ensuring that there is effective communication between the Authority, the Ministry responsible for the Environment, Government as a whole and other key stakeholders.
Managing external relations in terms of policy outreach to Countries, other Governments and International Agencies, Private Sector and NGOs.
Liaising with other national and international agencies on policy, legislative and institutional framework matters.

Personal Profile
To be appointed to this position a candidate must have:

A postgraduate degree from a recognized University in the fields of Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a relevant social science.
Fifteen (15) years working experience in a relevant field, five (5) of which must be at a managerial level.

In addition to the above, a candidate is expected to:

Be Conversant with the national, regional and global trends in environment, and demonstrate potential to plan, develop and implement environmental programmes as well as develop institutional linkages.
Demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills, highest ethical standards, integrity, professionalism and managerial competence.
Be an experienced leader of diverse people and processes with ability to lead, develop and direct team members to deliver on high performance targets

Terms of Service and Remuneration
NEMA offers a competitive remuneration package in line with Public Service guidelines.  The appointment will be for a contractual period of four (4) years renewable once for a similar period of time subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets.
