IT Systems Engineer Administrative Assistant

Job Description
Reporting to the IT Manager, the incumbent will ensure that the system hardware, operating systems, software systems and related procedures adhere to organizational values and enabling staff effectively perform their duties.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include but not be limited to the following:

Plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems.
Manage and monitor all installed client / Server systems and infrastructure applications & services ensuring highest levels of availability
Monitor and test application, systems and network performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with stakeholders to implement those fixes.
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
Apply new industry and technology trends to solve business problems.
Evaluate existing technical architecture in view of business and mission strategic goals.
Ensure that the introduction of new technologies is consistent with the overarching architecture and applicable guidelines.
Provide expertize and support for virtual technologies (VMware)
Develop and test backup and recovery procedures for the VMware farms, based on VMware Best Practices
Databases
Working closely with IT project managers and database programmers.
Establishing the needs of users and monitoring and controlling user access, privileges, permissions and security for organization databases.
Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users;
Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database;
Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS;
Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly;
Capacity planning.
Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.

Skills

Emphasis in expertize with Active Directory, Group Policy Management, and advanced networking service such as VLAN implementations and VPN setup and support.
Demonstrated multidisciplinary (expertise systems engineering) and strong technology background.
Familiarity with various domains: cloud, architecture, service management, systems engineering and integration, applications, data, platforms, networks, etc.
Excellent deductive reasoning and troubleshooting skills.
Must be extremely team oriented with the ability to work in an agile environment
Must have good communication to include both oral and written.
The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables.
Ability to work across organizational lines and at all levels.

Professional Qualification
The successful candidate should posses;

BSC Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject.
Professional certifications in CCNA, MCSE / MCTIP
Proven working experience with databases ( SQL server or Postgres)
Knowledge in Linux an added advantage
Must have at least 5 years’ experience in an IT Systems Administration position
