JOB SUMMARY
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer is responsible for champion organization-wide knowledge sharing, so that the organization’s know-how, information and experience is shared inside and (as appropriate) outside the organization with clients, partners, and stakeholders. In addition, they will be responsible for the implementation of the KCIC communications strategy, internally and externally, and compliance with our donors’ communications requirements.
Communications and PR
Co-ordinate all public relations and media activity on behalf of KCIC, including; identifying strategic PR and media opportunities, responding to media enquiries, writing and distributing media releases and op-eds, at all times representing KCIC in line with our vision and mission,
Support stakeholder communications activity by leading the production of communication materials, including website, e-newsletters, presentations, proposals, board reports, annual impact reports, award applications, insight reports and other relevant strategic communication materials internally and externally,
Ensure that our events and activities are appropriately promoted on social media and other relevant channels to enable increased awareness and engagement
Brand Building
Liaise with and promote effective links with relevant partners, media, government departments and other stakeholders to ensure a strong brand profile
Lead on the co-ordination and management of all marketing and promotional materials. This includes overseeing design and copywriting, plus editorial support, to ensure key messages and a consistent brand image is adhered to
Ensure that our stakeholder audiences clearly understand who we are, what we do, and how they can get involved
Ensure that KCIC is represented at appropriate events in our networks
Review, update and communicate brand guidelines to enable our organisation to represent our brand effectively
Knowledge Management
Create avenues for exchange of information, converting data into valuable information and ensuring its accessibility and usage.
Maximize creation, discovery and dissemination of knowledge within the KCIC.
Contributing to the preparation of knowledge management products such as board reports and management reports;
Develop KCIC intranet comprising of a searchable database of reports for organization and partners and enhance KCIC existing internal knowledge management systems and platforms to upload and share information;
Production of semi-annual and annual reports to be shared with different stakeholders;
Translating information from KCIC activities into knowledge products to be shared with stakeholders and the general public;
Produce success stories and lessons learned to enhance KCIC visibility;
Support staff in key activities including development of learning agenda, organizing regular learning events plus documenting and communicating such learning initiatives;
Collaborating with KCIC partners to seek latest developments and take advantage of all mechanism for contextualizing and sharing knowledge
Job Qualifications
BA/Master’s degree in communications, knowledge management, international development, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a similar communications role, within a reputable organization.
Technical experience interacting with donors, including experience working with donor funded organizations preferred.
Proven ability to organize, summarize, and rewrite technical information for non-expert audiences.
Excellent English and Swahili oral and written communication skills (writing samples will be requested), facilitation and negotiating skills.
Familiarity with social media.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and use good judgment.
Proven ability to work effectively in teams in a multi-cultural context.
Familiarity with current donor branding guidelines preferred.
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
Experience in videography and photography is desirable
