Reporting to the Sector Manager – Livestock, the incumbent will provide technical support, planning, coordination implementation, monitoring and reporting of sector interventions. S/he will also contribute to driving sector transformation by developing and implementing innovative interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead formation of strong partnerships and manage relationships with relevant public and private sector actors that are critical in the implementation of the target interventions
Design innovative interventions that would facilitate growth and transformation within the livestock sector in Kenya.
Facilitate selected market actors to improve their commercial, financial and technical competencies.
Participate in designing interventions that would mainstream resilience, competitiveness and inclusiveness in business operations.
Contribute to internal learning and knowledge management processes, including regular performance monitoring, programme reviews and evaluations.
Work closely with the Monitoring, results and evaluation specialist to design and implement the interventions Results Measurement Frameworks including constructing results chains, developing measurement plans, projections, attribution strategies,and undertaking monitoring activities against measurement indicators.
Prepare briefs for selected interventions including expected results and milestones and subsequently when required present them to various audiences.
Identify opportunities for innovation and new areas for developing market systems approaches and tools.
Collect situation analysis data, analyze, interpret and compile reports to the Sector Manager with recommendations for in-depth policy or research work.
Effectively support external researchers and consultants when it is necessary to commission external support
Prepare and submit periodic intervention budgets and projections as and when required.
Key Qualifications:
A degree in economics, marketing, social sciences or related field.
At least 5 years’ working experience in private sector development. Experience gained in the livestock sector environment would be an added advantage.
Working experience in the arid and semi-arid region of Kenya and a good understanding of the livestock value chain will be a great asset.
Able to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
Good business acumen – appreciation of budgeting and financial management and an ability to conduct basic financial analysis
Good analytical and critical thinking skills, problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills and the ability to monitor and explain trends and variances.
Excellent writing skills and strong reporting and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner, for different purposes and across multiple audiences.
Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
Good negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to influence people positively
Able to work both independently, efficiently and effectively as well as in collaboration with people at various levels and from different backgrounds.
Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office applications i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook and statistical packages.
