Senior IT Solutions Architect

Reports To: Business Engagement Manager
Role Purpose: Create technical solutions for business problems, utilizing available IT assets. Act as technical subject matter expert on IT systems, providing and articulating forward-looking technical proposals for implementation either to cover existing functionality gaps or to generate new innovative commercial products and business services. Act as an Information Technology evangelist to business.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Solution Design
% of Time: 70

Translate documented business requirements into a technical solution design for implementation
Collaboratively oversee the development of the solution as per agreed architecture.
Provide solution architecture input into all new system tenders

Performance Measurement Criteria to Meet Objectives

Guarantee successful IT projects by providing clear technical guidelines for solution implementation. Measure: 95% of all formal development design documents must be reviewed and approved by the Solution Architect. 90% of all development projects should NOT have architecture re-design requirements
Ensure optimization of solution development turn-around by maximizing on re-use of existing IT assets. Measure: Less than 25% duplication of functionality in the IT architecture
Translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical architecture documents/instructions for developers and other technical resources. Measure: 95% of all development projects must have documented and signed-off solution architecture for implementation.

Enterprise Architecture

Maintain up to date EA documentation
Maintain updated IT service catalogue documentation
Proactively communicate to business stakeholders on the available IT capabilities

Performance Measurement Criteria to Meet Objectives

Ensure there is sufficient awareness and alignment with business, of the Enterprise IT Architecture, including an up to date coverage map and gap analysis. Measure: 100% of all IT architecture assets must be documented as per EA documentation framework
Ensure there is sufficient awareness of the IT service catalogue, both within IT and in the business. Measure: 100% of all IT services either already delivered or in the pipeline must be documented as per the ITIL service catalogue standard
75% facilitation of once-monthly IT capabilities workshop with business stakeholders, focusing on different systems/business functions as necessary.

Qualification

Degree in Science/computer science/Engineering/Business related.

Experience and Skills

Solution Architecture skills (Advanced level)
3 years of software development experience in a busy IT development environment, 2 years of which must include experience in systems analysis and design.
Advanced skills in logical and physical data modeling, relational databases.
Experience in multiple programming languages and Web services
Experience with both UNIX and Windows platforms are necessary
Knowledge of networking-TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing
Knowledge of security-encryption (SSL), certificates, firewalls, VPN, IPSec, etc
Experience integrating products into legacy systems
