Micro Enterprises Support Programme Trust (MESPT) was established in the year 2002 with the aim of supporting the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises by providing integrated business solutions for sustainable development to promote economic growth, employment creation and poverty alleviation through support to enterprises.
MESPT works with intermediaries that provide financial or business development services to improve the performance of enterprises. The aim is to strengthen financial intermediaries in order to establish a strong, stable, market-based micro-finance sector in Kenya.
The Trust is a multi-donor entity jointly founded by the Government of Kenya and the European Union who relinquished their position to the Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA).
MESPT’s vision is to be the leading and preferred provider of resources for the development of enterprises and is anchored on three pillars: Green Growth, Enterprise development and Value chain development.
MESPT is currently is looking for qualified and competent person to take up the role of a Chairperson for the Board. This role will be responsible for the provision of strategic leadership and management of the board and oversee all matters pertaining finance and governance of MESPT.
Roles & Responsibilities
Ensure that the Board plays a full and constructive part in the development and determination of the MESPT’s strategy, programme priorities and associated policies in liaison with the MESPT management team
Ensure that strategic priorities and programmes are implemented effectively and efficiently by the MESPT programme teams at a governance level in liaison with the MESPT Board and management team
Provide leadership and governance to the Board and drive its effectiveness by ensuring that all key and appropriate issues and decisions are discussed and effected in an efficient and timely manner
Collaborate with relevant Board evaluation teams to ensure that the performance of the Board of Trustees, including individual performance, is evaluated and continuous improvement measures implemented in line with leading corporate governance standards
Requirements
The successful candidate must have at least fifteen years relevant work experience and ten years’ experience serving on a Board is required. Experience serving as past Chair in a similar organization will be an added advantage.
S/he should have a Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting or any other equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university.
The candidate must have undergone training in Corporate Governance and other related courses from recognized professional bodies.
S/he should have demonstrate leadership experience and his/ her achievements in managing Boards, Management and various institutional stakeholders.
