Product Manager

Role Description
Medic Mobile is growing! We are looking for a highly-organized Product Manager to effectively communicate product capabilities, align internal resources, and help us deliver on ambitious goals. The Product Manager will report to Medic Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer.
Position Information
Employment Status: Full-time for a minimum of 2 years
Location: Ideal locations include Nairobi, Toronto, East Coast of the US, and West Coast of the US (San Francisco)

Responsibilities
At a high level, the Product Manager will:

Maintain the roadmap for Medic Mobile’s open-source software toolkit
Work in close coordination with design, engineering, and deployment teams, helping us achieve annual, quarterly, and monthly goals
Lead communications about product capabilities
Work closely with teammates and stakeholders to understand the needs of users and partners and understand the landscape of complementary/competitive technologies
Planning
Consult with Medic staff and external stakeholders to inform and maintain the product roadmap
Draft quarterly and monthly goals; schedule calls with product team leads to discuss and prioritize
Inform proposals and SOWs to ensure that proposed features and timelines are aligned with roadmap and reflect accurate level of effort
Understand the needs of users, partners, and teammates; work with Chief Design Officer and Director of Engineering to improve the process by which we receive input/feedback/feature requests from our team; manage and iterate on this process to make sure we are being responsive to the realities on the ground
Track and hold us accountable to product deliverables and timelines in project SOWs
Work with designers and engineering leads to understand requirements for requested features in order to prioritize and schedule them
Actively manage the issue backlog so that we are keeping up with incoming requests and grouping them for further discussion/exploration
Oversee timelines for product design and development cycles
Product Design and Development
Alongside engineers and designers, support requirements gathering for specific features or new products
Inform the design of features at key points in design process to maintain alignment to product strategy and roadmap
Contribute ideas and insights to product strategy
Work with designers to support A/B and user testing
Help ensure comprehensive issues are created for all features, e.g. they include relevant screenshots, links to mockups, and acceptance criteria to guide acceptance testing
Schedule features to releases
Respond to Github comments from devs working on issues within one working day
Work with design team if any questions come up during development of a feature (facilitate discussion on the issue as needed)
Learn alongside Impact team and designers as we monitor the effectiveness of features and workflows; inform iteration plans and track the resulting new requests
Communications
Ensure that all Medic staff and key organizational partners understand what our product is capable of today, future directions, and the process for contributing to the roadmap
Create internal release notes to help educate our team on new features, new workflows, and how to configure them
Lead internal product education calls
Announce all releases internally, including highlights of key features and a link to the release notes
Create and share product roadmap documents that help our team understand what’s coming and support partnerships discussions
Create product briefs to communicate about product internally and externally

Qualifications
Ideal applicants will have:

3+ years of product management experience
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
An interest in serving marginalized communities, and a commitment to delivering health care to those that are hardest to reach
A knowledge of, and respect for, the discipline of human-centered design
A belief that design can be a radical act, and that awesome design can change lives
Humility, tenacity, inclusivity, and team spirit
An ability to pivot gracefully to respond to the needs of our partners, users, and landscape
Experience with product management tools and software
An adaptive and empathetic communication style
A passion for organizing and coordinating people, process, and ideas
An ability to describe technical details to both engineering and non-engineering audiences
The ability and openness to travel up to 30% time, with simple accommodations, to Medic Mobile’s regional offices in Nairobi, Dakar, Kampala, and Kathmandu (and in some cases, to partner sites across Africa and Asia)
A flexible working schedule to enable coordination among remote teammates and offices, which might include early morning or late evening hours

Other Details

Additional locations will be considered, provided the timezone presents a reasonable overlap with teammates in those locations. Medic Mobile will not cover the costs of relocation.
