Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership

Oversee all account, ledger, and reporting reconciliation ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP and IFRS standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and grant expenditures.
Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and be actively involved in monitoring PayGo Energy’s financial status.
Assist in Financial Planning & Analysis as needed by the Head of Finance in the annual budgeting and planning process, including supporting the budget vs actuals analysis and transactions reclassifications.
Support the Head of Finance in engaging PayGo Energy board’s audit and enterprise risk (A&ER) committee around issues of audit, internal controls, and applicable accounting practices.
Oversee all project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
Oversee all of the accounting systems which are currently comprised solely by Xero and be actively engaged in the design and implementation of other financial systems to ensure they contain the necessary controls, consistency, and integrity to support the financial reporting and annual audit procedures.
Design and implement appropriate policies and effectively communicate new systems, policies and processes to staff with Head of Finance.
Oversee all of the field office accounting activities, including occasional travel to perform internal reviews and training.
Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions
Support cashflow monitoring activities by ensuring that bank accounts are reconciled monthly, helping design appropriate policies, controls, and systems, and providing input to the Head of Finance
Research new and existing accounting guidance and providing management with a timely interpretation of how such guidance affects PayGo Energy’s accounting and financial reporting activities.
Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
Seek out methods for minimizing financial risk to the Company.

Team Leadership

Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Oversee financial department employees, including the Staff Accountant (title to be updated) and the Office Administrator (title to be updated). Provide training to reporting staff. For the Staff Accountant, this includes performing:

Monthly Reconciliations
Departmental Budget Variance Reports
Integrating Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Reporting Statements
Using Internal Reporting Statements to Report to External Stakeholders
Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company. This includes routine (quarterly) company-wide training on financial policies and procedures as well as training during the onboarding process for new employees.
Evaluate outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs as necessary
Manage consolidated external audit, Single Audit (formerly A-133), and IRC 409a.

Work directly with auditors on all aspects of audit, including audit planning, on-going daily management, resolution of complex audit issues, and preparation of draft audited financial statements and footnotes.
Work directly with auditors and regional accounting to coordinate field office audits.
Prepare work schedules as requested by the auditors.
Assist with the filing of an annual IRC 409a, Kenyan Corporate Taxes, US Franchise Taxes, and other state and country tax filings as needed. Work directly with external tax consultants to review, and file with the relevant authorities.
Prepare responses to the auditors’ management letter and coordinate around Audit and Enterprise Risk Committee meetings to review, discuss, and approve the audited financial statements.

Does this sound like you?

Advanced degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or a related field preferred; Bachelors in accounting required.
CPA required; ACCA preferred.
5-10 years of financial operating experience in a managing role; 2-3 years experience in corporate finance preferred.
Deep knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP, International Trade, Shipping & Procurement, Inventory Management Systems, ESOP Administration, International Banking Operations, Pay-As-You-Go Revenue Recognition, and Fixed Asset Management.
Leadership skills and 5-7 years experience with employee management;
Superior quantitative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with intrinsic ability as an excel jockey.
Extraordinary communication skills, both written and verbal including public speaking.
