Engineer – Field Services

Job description
Role Summary
In this role the individual will support UPS service activity in Kenya (Nairobi/Kisumu/Mombasa), with specific responsibility in UPS field operations in the geographical area of competence. Specific areas of interest are Power Quality installation with specific reference to Uninterruptable Power Supply.
Essential Responsibilities

Support the Critical Power UPS business with field service operations in Kenya (it is sometimes required to support nearby countries)
Perform commissioning, startup & preventive maintenance at customer site. Timely prepare work reports reflecting activity done, advice to customer for future service, hours and parts spent on the job
Capability to diagnose issues and repair GE UPS and GE Critical Power products; full understanding and knowledge of Power Quality installations
Organize and be part of local customer support 24×7
Support RMA process for single phase and parts return repairs
Responsibility for tools and test equipment (maintenance and calibration)
Capable to maintain small spare stock in his area to support customer in case of emergency
Capable Write Customer reports, and –when required – attend customer meetings to support commercial deals
Ensure proper communications and collaboration with product sales team and factory technical support
Responsible to apply EHS rules in his own activity
Manage outsourced resources as needed to fulfill peak of demands for his customers
Maintain a list of installed base for his own geographical area

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (Electrical/Electronics) from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of experience in a Field Services role
Detailed UPS products knowledge
Experience in UPS installation, commissioning and troubleshooting
Six Sigma would be a plus
Local language/English fluency
Must have valid authorization to work full-time without any restriction in the role’s location

Desired Characteristics

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred
Strong business acumen and ability to sell GE products to the customer
Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
Strong customer service mindset
Prior field engineering experience is preferred
Strong organizational skills
Prior project management experience is preferred
FEP program graduate is preferred (internal GE employees only)
Strong project management skills

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
