Head of Farm

ROLE OVERVIEW
Responsible for the daily planning, organization, supervision and administration of activities on farm estates. Typical responsibilities include: forward planning, budgeting and maintaining accurate financial records, livestock management, farm equipment, crops and agricultural products handling paperwork and keeping administrative records. Variations in workloads relate to seasonal demands – flexibility in working hours may be necessary during busy periods and the head of farm will be expected to deal with emergencies.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Recruit, train and supervise farm workers
· Lead the team to ensure high-quality implementation
· Make sure that work progresses satisfactorily
· Ensure compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards
· Ensure all Farm activities conform to health and safety requirements; manage and instigate HR policy and procedure reviews annually or as necessary.
· Develop an annual budget and submit quarterly updates of actual against forecast
· Ensure that the farm is profitable and meets projected financial targets
· Ensure that the aims of the business plan are met, and update the business plan annually
· Organize maintenance/repair of farm property, equipment and machinery
· Oversee implementation and monitoring of activities that result in increased incomes and increased household consumption of diverse, nutritious foods
· Develop a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plan to ensure rigorous data collection and analysis
· Ensure that there is value addition in both agricultural and non-agricultural production
· Oversee effective management of animal welfare and compliance with regulations
· Improve and increase the diversity of farm produce
· Keep an up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases
· Advertise and market farm products
· Manage relationships with relevant market system actors
· Carry out whatever other duties that may be required to ensure that the Farm is developing as envisioned and to ensure it is sustainable in the long term
A degree in agribusiness or a related subject, Farm managers need to have a good understanding of modern farming methods, a commitment to animal welfare and an interest in, and understanding of, the ways in which farming impacts the environment. An awareness of customer demand, food standards and sustainability are also all important. Experience in crop production value chain and market access
· Excellent technical knowledge – knowledge and experience in agricultural and non-agricultural production
· Knowledge and experience in value addition and market access
· Over three years proven personnel management, farm management and budget management experience
· Self-motivation and the ability to motivate others
· Brilliant leadership skills and able to inspire a team

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Ability to work independently with minimal input
