Regional Protection Coordinator

Purpose
The DRC Regional Protection Coordinator will lead initiatives focused on enhancing DRC’s responses upholding human rights and promotion of durable solutions so that no refugee must be in want of help to find protection and durable solutions. The post will support DRC’s wider work in the East Africa and Yemen region, which is grounded in protection of displaced persons. The post holder will be the technical and strategic coordinator on Protection for DRC EAY.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical support to country operations and protection staff, particularly in the following programmatic areas: community-based protection, child protection, GBV, and legal assistance including HLP
Provide technical support to country programmes to ensure quality protection analyses, country protection strategy and protection responses
Technical input into the development of outcome level protection tools and guidance
Ensure country capacity on Protection Information Management (PIM) is of a good quality and standard with a particular focus on strong and action-oriented protection monitoring
Advise the country and regional offices on protection in strategic documents and proposals and ensure that protection is mainstreamed and adequately reflected in relevant strategic documents, decisions and practice
Contribute to / take lead in developing DRC and joint policy position papers / briefs and advocacy messaging on thematic protection issues
Support and contribute to research initiatives related to protection
Lead the drafting of a Regional Protection Strategy and work to raise the protection profile of DRC in EAY
Ensure links with Regional Office initiatives such as the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat (RMMS) and Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) in coordination with the Regional Communication and Advocacy Coordinator
Provide surge support to country programmes when essential

Qualifications:
Post-graduate qualification in the field of law, social sciences/humanities
Minimum 5 years of working experience in Protection of which majority is field-based
Working experience from an international humanitarian organisation
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and adaptability
Good networking skills
Fluent in written and spoken English
Experience working in insecure environments and willingness to travel within the region
Work related experience from the East Africa and Yemen region or similar complex displacement situations.
Ideally, you also have:
Field protection experience from one of the concerned countries is an added advantage
Proven experience in leading and conducting research will be an added advantage
Having a clear understanding of the regional protection situation in the EYA region

Conditions
Availability: 1 July 2017
Duty station: The position will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel within the region
Duration: 12 month contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.
Contract: Salary and other conditions are offered in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment at A12 for international staff or competitive salary and conditions as per national staff terms of employment, as relevant.
