I: JOB SUMMARY & PURPOSE: The primary role of the incumbent is to install, maintain, diagnoses faults and repair electrical wiring and computer based equipments in cars, tracks, caravans, trailers, earthmoving and agricultural equipments and wheeled tractors. The emphasis of quality control and customer centered attitude will be the hallmark of his day to day works. He/she will be required to comply with the workshop standard operating procedures, internal control procedures and CARE’ Kenya’s vehicle operation & maintenance management policy
II. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
R 1: Preventive repairs and maintenance of vehicles and Equipments
1.1 Carry out the Mechanical / Electrical Preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant and equipment including but not limited to Isuzu trucks, 4×4 vehicles, tractors, Agro – trailers, Backhoe loaders, and heavy vehicles of various makes, types and models.
1.2 Repair electronic and computerized vehicle gadgets, air brakes, EFI and A/C systems.
1.3 Attend to different level of technical skills covering electrical, pneumatics, modifications, welding, fabrication and mechanical disciplines.
1.4 Completion of work orders / job cards and time sheets of the assigned repair jobs.
1.5 Test and operate vehicles and equipment as required and observe evidence of abnormal or normal operation.
1.6 Repairs and maintenance of agricultural equipment and modifications to suit our operational needs.
1.7 Diagnose service and repair electronically controlled vehicles systems such as electronic fuel injection and ignition, anti-lock braking, cruise control and automatic transmission.
1.8 Repairing and installing electrical equipment such as air cons, alternators, starter motors and batteries.
1.9 Skilled usage of measuring instruments and test equipment such as engine analyzers, injector testers, ignition timers, lactometers, etc.
R 2: Safety Precautions and Quality Control
2.1 To consistently deliver high quality repairs in the required timeframes, which will ensure clients’ needs and requirements are met.
2.2 To ensure that all electrical appliances are turned off in the evening before closing for the day.
2.3 To complete all work orders and record all additional repairs and parts and ensure that a checklist has been performed.
2.4 Ensure workshop safety rules and procedures are followed, including designating highly flammable substances and use of right tools and equipments
R3: Mechanical/Electrical Diagnosis and Interpretation of Repair Manuals
3.1 Interpret instructions, technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics and other guides to conduct repairs and modifications.
3.2 Ensure skilled usage of measuring instruments and test equipment such as engine analyzers, injector testers, ignition timers, lactometers, ammeters, ohmmeters etc.
3.3 Proper use of vehicle computer-controlled diagnostic machine on engine, fuel and ignition, ABS braking and transmission systems
III: AUTHORITY:
Spending Authority: This position does not have spending authority.
Supervision: Will directly supervise and provide technical assistance to one assistant electrician.
Decision Making: Decisions making are limited within prescribed standards.
IV: CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS External: UNHCR, WFP, IOM, GOK and Various IP’s such us NRC, OXFARM, LWF, DRC, GTZ, ADEO, FILM AID, WINDLE TRUST, IRC, HANDICAP etc.
Internal: Administration coordinator, camp admin and drivers).

V: WORKING CONDITIONS: The position is based at Dadaab Main Office (DMO) with frequent movements to Hagadera, Ifo and Dagahaley camps as well as any other extension camps and program sites. This is a nonfamily working station. Hot weather is prevalent throughout the year with limited basic amenities. Road movement to and from work station to Garissa as well as inter-camp movement must be under police escort (Scheduled convoys). Strict adherence to security instructions all the time. It is a six days work station with a compensatory time off according to CTO policy. The incumbent shall reside in the CARE compound while executing official duties and shall obey and adhere to residential compound regulations.
VI: QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES AND COMPETENCIES
Education: Diploma in Auto/Electrical Engineering and must have a Valid driving license preferably with Class B, C, E.
Experience: 3 years of relevant work experience in in electrical repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipments especially 4WD and tractors in the automotive field. Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with knowledge of vehicle computer-controlled systems, engine fuel and ignition, ABS braking and transmission functions.
Certificate: Computer literate with good knowledge of MS office.
