Responsibilities of the Project Coordinator
The aim of VBE project is to support the Government of Kenya (GoK) to build a values- based education system which enables school communities to better relate to and interact with diverse people, ideas, beliefs and culture.
The project will ensure that it reaches to: ECDE centers, Primary schools and Secondary schools, civil society Organizations that work with the youth and community members of Mombasa and Kwale Counties.  This will potentially contribute to improving quality of life of people in the two counties. Pluralism, ethical values and civic responsibility being the key focus. In order to achieve this purpose, there are four main components to the project:
Values- based schools which demonstrate effective and scalable strategies in teaching, co-curricular activities, school leadership/ethos and parents engagement.
CSOs and youth groups engage in activities that will promote values beyond the school and into the broader community.
An education system and policy framework that promotes a conducive environment to inculcate values.
An evidence base for values- based education and the dissemination of evidence to support the national implementation of values-based education practices and policies.
These components are designed to be mutually reinforcing and interactive in order to effectively achieve long term, sustainable results. The main modality is to work with Aga Khan Academy and through local partners i.e. Civil Society Organization who will collectively contribute to the fulfilment the two (number 1 and 2 above) component areas of the project.
The Project Coordinator shall primarily be responsible for the management and coordination of field operations, ensuring timely, efficient and effective implementation of the project and its documentation.
The Coordinator shall also collaborate actively with the Area manager and Regional Education Programme Officer in enhancing the capabilities of the Project Officers (POs) and other partners/AKDN agencies in Mombasa and Kwale to effectively and efficiently implement the VBE project document and report on a quarterly, semiannually and annual basis.
 Qualifications and Experience of the Project Coordinator
Master degree in an education field, with at least 5 years working experience at project management or coordination level. Additional skills in Project management, community development will provided an added advantage.
An in depth Understanding of the local context in Mombasa and Kwale and appreciation of the community dynamics.
A working experience in participatory project and community driven approaches.
Proven work experience in managing organizations.
A proven record working with devolved units of governments around policy engagement.
A proven effective mobilizer and motivator in a working environment.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and people’s management skills.
Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
Flexible, professional with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities within strict timelines.
