Job Summary
The position is responsible for ensuring that BoH maintains high standards of professional nursing care to Expectant mothers while ensuring consistent provision of efficient and ethical care to support it in achieving quality health service delivery.
Nurse Officer/Midwife Job Key Responsibilities
General Management
Work in collaboration with the Health Services team and the BoH management to implement effective procedures, rules, regulations that are consistent with the organization values and policies.
Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols for nursing services.
Ensure compliance with established professional and institutional policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Work with the Health Services team to achieve continuous quality service improvement, enhanced safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
Create a nursing environment that fosters collaboration between nurses and other medical staff and cultivate relationships across functions and departments.
Ensure protection of patients and employees by adherence to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Management of Nursing Care
Organise nursing services in the clinic to ensure smooth triage, observation, admission, transfer and referral of
Expectant mothers/patients if necessary.
Responsible for the delivery of the mother, ensuring the safety of both the mother and child.
Supervising and assisting mothers in labor, monitoring labor using the partograph and writing of nursing care plans.
Ensure that the birth Registration of babies is carried out, list compiled and submitted to relevant authorities
Providing full antenatal care, including counseling and screening tests in the hospital.
Ensure that equipments and facilities used for nursing services are well kept and maintained.
Keep inventory and maintain adequate stock levels of materials and supplies for nursing care.
Work closely with the other units especially laboratory and pharmacy to provide smooth flow of patients through the processes.
Ensure the clinical and nursing needs of patients are met and in a timely manner.
Patient Care
Record patient’s care services, condition and treatment as required.
Conduct weekly ward meetings
Perform minor surgical procedures.
Perform Immunization/ vaccination services and keep the necessary records.
Ensure that the patient’s records are available at the clinic prior to starting.
Ensure that appropriate clinical/laboratory request forms are available in the clinic andassist in the completion of same e.g. patient’s name, address and number.
Answer and respond to telephone queries relating to patient treatment.
Give appropriate care to patients who are undergoing sedation or general anaesthesia.
Ensure safe administration of medications
Recognise and assist with medical emergencies.
General Tasks
Provide the Family planning services in conjunction with the clinical team.
Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to minimise cross – infection in line with established procedures.
Work closely with other nurses and the medical social workers in providing advice topatients concerning diet, hygiene, and how/methods for taking the medicines.
Contribute to clinical care assessment in areas such as pain management, skin careand nutrition and hydration.
Report and document incidents and accidents promptly and correctly.
Prepare and present timely comprehensive care and nursing reports management as may berequired.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the management from time to time.
Requirements for Nurse Officer/Midwife Job
The knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training)
Level of Education/Academic Qualification
KSCE with a minimum grade B-
Specialised Training/Professional Qualifications
Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)/ Kenya Registered Midwife. (KRM) and be registered by the nursing council.

Must be a self-driven individual, diligent, honest and responsible
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Highly professional and patient to listen and attend to patients
Good spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
An individual with a passion for the wellbeing of patients

Must be able to pay attention to detail and report accurately.
Must have Computer /internet knowledge
Demonstrate excellent leadership skills with the ability to work with no supervision.
Current knowledge on HIV/AIDS and best practices
Relevant Job Experience
At least five (5) years relevant experience in a busy maternity unit
Life support Skills on obstetric and neonatal care.
