Cost Accountant

Job Summary
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for collecting, recording, classifying, analysing, summarizing, allocating and evaluating various alternative courses of action & control cost in production with the goal to advise management on the most appropriate course of action based on cost efficiencies and capabilities.
The position would be suitable for someone with experience in cost accounting in a FMCG or manufacturing company
Cost Accountant Job Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Finance controller, the incumbent will be required but not limited to;-
Ensure smooth operation of all our equipment;
Maintain ledger for all accounts related to inventory and cost of goods sold
Participate in the review of cost processes and identification of opportunities to initiate process improvements
Planning, Studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour.
Analysing data collected and recording results
Analysing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
Analysing audits of costs and preparing reports
Making estimates of new and proposed product costs
Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger
Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
Reconciles finished goods inventories
Determine appropriate re-ordering levels to attain efficiency in production
Provide ad hoc accounting information and analysis
Preparing short term and long-term budgets
Qualifications and Skills for Cost Accountant Job
Minimum of 4 solid years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
CPA(K) or ACCA is an advantage
Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
Computer Literate – Strong Excel skills and the ability to use Outlook and Word
Experience working in the food industry will be an added advantage
Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly
A team player
Willing to put in long hours
