Job description
The Position
Internships are short-term academic training for young professionals who join ILRI for a short period (usually 3 months or less but can be up to 6 months in length) as s part of their academic curriculum and are expected to resume their studies upon completion of their internship. ILRI wishes to recruit a Finance Intern based at the Finance Unit to assist in undertaking the below activities:
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing VAT exemption applications and liaising with Finance Admin. Assistant to submit to Liaison Office
Assist in monitoring and updating of VAT exemptions sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KRA
Notifying the responsible accountant on return of the certificates and issuance of the VAT exemptions to the suppliers
Assist the Finance Admin Assistant in assigning Finance tasks at the Helpdesk
Checking of supporting documents on Payment Vouchers
Assist in Invoice-PO matching process, and post supplier invoices in OCS
Learn and be able to undertake supplier statement reconciliations
Be able to learn and generate payment remittance proposals
Learning and preparing bank reconciliations and following up on outstanding items.
Learn how to draft letters/instructions to the bank
Assist in review of the petty cash vouchers
Assist the Finance Admin. Assistant in generating receipts for staff refunds
Assist to review Travel Expense Reports (TERs) for staff
Assist accountant in reviewing physical field office vouchers
Storing, arranging, indexing and classifying various financial records in the archive
Assist in filling finance documents & retrieving documents during project audits
Maintaining a database of suppliers and other external customers’ contacts
Understand the ILRI budgeting cycle, concepts and process
Learn how to prepare monthly management reports
Understand how to review donor reports.
Required Skills And Experience
Applicants must at the time of application meet the following requirements:
Be enrolled for a university degree programme in Finance or Accounting or its equivalent either in third year or fourth year.
CPA 2 or equivalent
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and word and good skills at using financial software applications.
Proficiency in English.
Terms of appointment: ILRI will offer a competitive stipend to cover living expenses as well as insurance.
