ERM is looking for an experienced Senior Social Consultant to join our growing team in Nairobi, Kenya.
This role will suit someone with strong ESIA and ESMPR expertise who wants to work in an international role delivering challenging projects.
Role profile
Many of our clients in east Africa are Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Private Equity firms, involved in the development of projects across a broad range of sectors throughout east Africa, but predominantly in the power, agribusiness and infrastructure sectors. In almost all cases, these projects involve complex social and resettlement issues. ERM are in a unique and niche position in the region, where we assist our clients in navigating these complex issues, with the ultimate objective of providing our clients with a social license to operate, and ultimately in obtaining international finance for their projects.
Joining ERM would mean that you will work on wide ranging, multi-sectoral projects that spans all countries in east Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia. You will be part of our global social consulting team which consists of consultants with strong subject matter knowledge and project experience on different topics. You will play a key role contributing to the future growth of ERM East Africa business.
The ideal candidate will have strong social consulting expertise acquired through supporting clients in the oil and gas, mining, power and/or other industry sectors. With strong client skills, he/she will have prior and tested project management skills delivering projects dealing with complex social issues as described below. A strong communicator, he/she will be educated to degree level (Master’s degree will be advantageous) with excellent report writing and interpersonal skills.
Main responsibilities
We are looking for a Senior Social expert, to fulfil the following:

Provide technical guidance and support specifically to the social consulting services within the Capital Project Support team, including, but not limited to, support on social performance, impact assessment, livelihood restorations, community development plans, resettlement policy framework and resettlement action plans and stakeholder engagement projects and opportunities.
Support the development of a pipeline of Major Capital Projects in a number focus sectors across Africa including in Infrastructure, Power, Agri-business, upstream Oil and Gas, Finance etc
Play an active leadership role in sourcing, mentoring and developing talent within our organisation, not just in East Africa but also to the wider ERM community
Support the business development activities, proposal writing, and client relationship development and management
Although travel may be required to deliver on the above we are expecting this to amount to less than 5 days per month. You will visit our other offices in Africa and may travel on at least 1-2 trips internationally per year
