Chief Executive Officer

KEY ACTIVITIES

Manage and contribute tachievement of objectives of current and future R&D projects, as agreed with funders and in support of GALVmed 2030 Strategy.
Lead assigned R & D projects tproduct development and registration and achieve the objectives of the funded projects within timelines.
Manage assigned R&D project budgets through proactive intervention tachieve alignment with budget forecasts including annual budget review with Finance department.
Create product development plans tfit specific assigned and future R&D project objectives.
Together with the PortfoliManager, oversee the product development planning of assigned projects via
MS Project tensure transparent planning and communication of tasks and timelines and ensure they remain on track and on time.
Map out and maintain awareness of relevant scientific literature taid success of assigned product development projects.
Maintain accurate records, manage risks on assigned projects and issue reports as per project milestones
Manage the project and project governance, including the project team, and consultants in day-to-day programme activities.
Manage meetings and related documentation including Minutes with GALVmed’s collaborative partners, commercial partner and donors
Co-ordinate project communications and manage data / results with a broad range of programme stakeholders
Prepare project plans and manage summary reports of project progress in collaboration with GALVmed
PortfoliManagement and the commercial partners
Design internal studies in consultation with Director R&D and in collaboration with R&D partners
Represent GALVmed within the research and scientific community through regular contact, and attendance and presentation at scientific meetings
Ensure stakeholder engagement and advocacy with institutions (FAO, WOAH, AU-IBAR), governments and monitor changes in government policies around regulation of veterinary vaccines
Public-Private Partnership: customize the WOAH PPP framework for the context of the Projects, and leverage the lessons learned for the adoption of new vaccines in Eastern Africa.
Contribute tscientific workshop, strategy documents, manuscript writing and/or review.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY CARRY OUT THE JOB ROLE)

Essential

PhD in Biological Sciences, infectious diseases or immunology.
At least 5 years’ experience on Veterinary health medicines (vaccines, diagnostics and disease surveillance), product development within a commercial environment or experience working in institutions on disease management (control and prevention).
Project Leadership and Management experience with demonstrated ability
Experience in policy development and stakeholder engagement, using evidenced-based approaches and policy research.
Solutions driven, and creative
Attention tdetail & ability tprioritise and manage complex and diverse activities.
Excellent team-player and ability twork across functions
Ability twork autonomously, unsupervised and in different locations as needed and adhere to deadlines
Willingness ttravel as needed up t30 days per year, sometimes tchallenging locations
Experience of working in low & middle income countries
Capacity tinteract well with industry, public sector and academic partners
Knowledge and experience on livestock diseases in SSA and SA

Desirable

Degree in Veterinary Medicine
Experience in conducting registration trials and familiarity with design & management of clinical trials in animals
Knowledge & experience with Veterinary Good Clinical Practices & Good Laboratory Practices
Background and experience in statistical data analysis
