What your day would be like
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Climate Policy, S&E-Policy and Standards, you will have responsibility for conducting robust policy analysis – both qualitative and quantitative – and advocating for appropriate regulation and policies in support of the aviation industry achieving its long-term sustainability goals, including net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
You will support IATA’s efforts to ensure climate policies and regulations are cost-effective, not unnecessarily restrictive, and aligned with the industry’s efforts and strategy. You will also ensure that IATA’s advocacy efforts and technical inputs are supported by sound analysis and effective outreach materials. Working with all teams in IATA S&E, you will proactively engage with governments and regulators to influence the development of appropriate policies that impact the industry.
You will represent the airlines’ interests in various forums, events, and technical meetings, notably but not exclusively, those in India. In coordination with airline experts and other stakeholders and aligned with the IATA global strategy and priorities, you will participate in meetings and support the drafting and review of different regulatory pieces concerning the aviation environment and sustainability.
You will participate in building and maintaining proactive and coordinated relationships with member airlines and other industry stakeholders and promote more member airlines in India to follow best practices in sustainability management.
In collaboration with the wider team and IATA members, you will help to identify solutions to the various challenges airlines face when complying with different regulation within and across jurisdictions. You will provide technical support to minimize the risk of non-compliance. As a subject matter expert, you will have opportunities to deliver presentations and develop material for internal and external capacity-building workshops.
You will be expected to contribute to developing the strategic direction, identifying priorities, and delivering on the strategy of the team and wider Division, including, but not limited to, the topics concerning Africa.

At least 5 years of work experience and a postgraduate university degree in a discipline that will support your contribution to the team, such as Economics, Law, or Public Policy. Experience working with national, regional, and/or international regulatory bodies in charge of aviation, transport, or environmental affairs would be strongly preferred. Direct policy involvement would be viewed favorably. Key assets would include:
Strong policy analysis skills with the ability to independently conduct policy assessments, build recommendations, and identify the priority areas that maximize the industry’s advocacy efforts.
Sound understanding of technical and sustainability aspects of all levers that contribute to aviation decarbonization.
The ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and to work under pressure on multiple tasks with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
Strong communication skills in written and spoken English and French, with an ability to decode complex subject material and present it to stakeholders in a succinct, accessible, and accurate way.
Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate with people in a multicultural environment across different geographic regions. You have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy collaboration, demonstrating an aptitude for building consensus and balancing diverging views.
