KEY PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessing and approving recovery strategies and settlement proposals within the job holder’s limit. For proposals beyond the job holder’s limit, making further recommendations and forwarding to senior management for approval.
Approving claims both on file and system settlements within allocated approval limits.
Allocating advocates to handle various matters and, where required, appointing investigators.
Ensuring prompt settlements of recoveries as per TATs to avoid proclamations and auctioneers.
Monitoring all suits filed against the insured and ensuring adequate measures are maintained as per regulations.
Empanelling advocates and investigators, and reviewing and evaluating their performance.
Providing detailed and researched legal opinions on claims, litigation matters, and those relating to the group.
Assigning work, supervising, and providing leadership to recoveries officers and filing personnel as they execute recovery processes.
Reviewing and revising processes in the recoveries section in adherence to company policies.
Providing management with necessary reports and constant updates on recovery matters.
Regularly reviewing reserves based on guidelines.
Managing recovery costs through strategic initiatives to ensure business profitability.
Managing stakeholder relationships as detailed in the manuals.
Providing information required by both internal and external auditors to ensure a complete and efficient audit process, informing the team, and following up on the implementation of audit recommendations.
Drafting and reviewing legal documents for the group.
Complying with statutory, regulatory, and internal control processes at the business units, including internal and external audit recommendations.
Developing departmental strategies and business plans to achieve set company targets.
CORPORATE LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviewing legal contracts for the APA Group.
Acting as the liaison for external law firms contracted by APA.
Overseeing legal functions if APA is involved in litigation, either as the plaintiff or defendant.
GENERIC DUTIES:
Entrenching performance-based appraisal of departmental staff in line with their set KPIs and departmental targets.
Participating in company CSR and brand-building activities in liaison with other departments.
Training, coaching, and mentoring staff to improve performance and cohesion within the department.
Implementing interdepartmental SLA in liaison with other departmental heads.
Participating in management meetings, projects, and committees as assigned.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Law or equivalent.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma In Legal Practice as an added advantage
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of experience in insurance recoveries or claims management.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and regulations.
Proficiency in using claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
