Job Description

Finance employees are tasked with receiving, recording, tracking, and strengthening internal controls to protect the Church’s sacred funds—donated in confidence and in accordance with God’s commandments—for the fulfillment of its religious mission under the guidance of senior ecclesiastical leaders. This role serves as an entry-level professional accounting position where the incumbent applies established accounting principles to specialized financial records and reports, while supporting the daily upkeep of a precise and comprehensive general ledger and generating fundamental financial statements.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, operational management, and cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational objectives. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, rigorous analytical skills, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing policies, supervising staff performance, and ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company standards. Additionally, the position requires fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while maintaining seamless communication with stakeholders at all levels. Strong problem-solving abilities, exceptional organizational talent, and a results-driven mindset are essential for success in this dynamic role.

Compiling journal entries alongside necessary adjustments constitutes a key responsibility, ensuring accurate financial records and adherence to accounting standards. This process involves meticulous review and entry of transactions, as well as reconciling discrepancies to maintain the integrity of financial reporting. By systematically documenting these adjustments, the role contributes to the overall precision and reliability of the organization’s financial statements.

Initiating regular maintenance of general ledger files, conducting thorough account reconciliations and reviews, and resolving outstanding ledger items.

Review expenditures to ensure they align with approved budgets, perform detailed reconciliations, conduct thorough investigations into discrepancies, and prepare correcting entries as needed.

Assisting in the preparation of diverse financial estimates and expense reports is a key responsibility. This role involves compiling and analyzing financial data to generate accurate projections and detailed expense documentation.

The position involves conducting thorough audits of project accounts to ensure adherence to established policies. Additionally, the role requires effective communication with relevant stakeholders regarding the progress and status of these projects.

Assisting in the development and mentorship of priesthood leaders and junior accounting staff constitutes a key responsibility.

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is essential. Prior experience in software development or a related role is strongly preferred. Familiarity with version control systems like Git is necessary. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills are a must. Strong communication abilities to collaborate effectively in a team are critical. The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently is highly valued. Knowledge of agile methodologies is beneficial.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management—with a specialization in financial accounting—is required for this position.

Hold a recognized professional qualification and active membership in pertinent professional organizations, including but not limited to the CPA(K), ARCA, and CISA.

Incumbents are required to possess a comprehensive understanding of the accountant code of conduct, along with a solid grasp of financial and accounting theory and policies. Additionally, they must demonstrate familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles.

Requires a minimum of four to six years of hands-on accounting experience in a professional capacity.

We are seeking a candidate with significant hands-on expertise in leveraging computerized accounting systems to streamline financial processes.

Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is essential, along with substantial hands-on experience. Familiarity with Oracle or People soft databases will be considered a valuable asset.

Required is expertise in interpreting and resolving intricate accounting issues as well as evaluating financial statements.

Capable of designing and implementing accounting systems to effectively manage and minimize financial risks.

Must possess robust reconciliation capabilities with meticulous attention to detail.

Must possess a strong sense of initiative and a results-driven mindset.

Must demonstrate fluency in English alongside strong written and verbal communication abilities in the language.

Candidates must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal abilities and proficiency in communicating with colleagues, management, and priesthood leaders.

A solid grasp of church organizational structure and operations is essential for this role.
