Packaging Analyst

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder will be responsible for ensuring packaging materials conform to the set standards and specification by carrying out the tests and reviewing the production process and quality management system to ensure it meets requirements.
He or she will also be very instrumental in developing the suppliers of various packaging materials capabilities in compliance to the set standards in Supplier quality management system. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Review and develop packaging materials (extrinsic) specifications in collaboration and in consultation with the internal & external stakeholders.
Participate in projects involving new packaging development or improvement of the existing packaging materials. 
Assess, analyse and test incoming dry goods as required by the quality management standards and make the necessary recommendations and documentations.
Conduct testing and analysis of materials to determine suitability for use and compliance with regulatory guidelines before receiving.
Work closely with cross-functional teams including production, supply chain, quality assurance, and marketing to align packaging solutions with operational and marketing strategies.
Work closely with production to ensure Work in Progress (WIP) complies with all process parameters during packaging and that the quality index of all products is continually improved.
Track all reworks through the production process to ensure completion and release.
Ensuring that packaging materials are supplied only by Approved Suppliers.
Carry out inspection of imported bulk and cased goods when required and reports as necessary.
Work with procurement department to ensure all quarantined raw materials are returned to suppliers and replaced with products that meet the required standards.
Ensure packaging materials comply regulatory and statutory requirements.
Ensuring5S is sustained in area of responsibility.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in food science, Chemical and Process Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Professional qualification in packaging technology will be an added advantage.
At least 2-4 years’ experience as a packaging technician in a food manufacturing or quality control environment.
Practical experience in use of MS packages.
Experience in working with ERP systems will be an added advantage.

 COMPETENCIES/ATTRIBUTES 

A good understanding of process and product Quality management requirements in a production setting.
Working Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and laboratory chemicals.
Experience working within a functional team to deliver projects.
Indepth knowledge of the production process would be preferred.
Knowledge of the regulations and standards governing the packaging labelling in a food manufacturing environment.
Good attention to details and high integrity.
Ready to learn attitude, high level of commitment and ability to work independently.
