Deputy Production Manager – Avocado Orchard

Job objective

As the Deputy Production Manager – Avocado Orchard you will be responsible for the oversight of all activities within the Simba Avocado orchards concerning production and general maintenance of all Simba orchards.

Your tasks and responsibilities

General plant hygiene, observe and monitor plant health for signs of stress, disease or pest incursion.
Fertilization and pest control activities as agreed with your immediate senior manager
The utilization, management and maintenance of the irrigation system, pest control equipment, field working tools etc
Quality control of recovered yields, all works undertaken etc
Training new techniques and methodologies like propping, pruning, weeding, mulching etc
Establishment of a model avocado within the farm with a high-level management.
Ensure that all labor in the section is effective and efficient and that all staff achieves the recommended daily tasks.
Plan and forecast avocado gapping plants required, operations etc
Manage the day-to-day operations of the orchard such as nursery management, transplanting, irrigation, fertilization, pest management and harvesting
Ensure the orchard operations adhere to standards of all agricultural audit’s guidelines
Maintain staff discipline and welfare in accordance with the company policy.
Deeper agricultural knowledge of the avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa
In-depth understanding of the avocado husbandry practices.

Your profile

Degree in Horticulture/ Agriculture or a related field.
Over 5 years of direct hands-on experience in managing Avocado Orchards, including production, crop husbandry, irrigation, fertilization and pest control.
Proven experience in identifying and controlling pests and diseases in crops, including the application of pesticides and other control measures.
Deeper agricultural knowledge of the avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa
In-depth understanding of the avocado husbandry practices.
Strong skills in planning and managing crop production schedules to meet market demands, including transplanting, and maintaining plant health.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse agricultural environment.
Ability to identify issues within the orchard, such as pest outbreaks and develop effective solutions.
Strong reporting skills to prepare and submit detailed monthly reports
