The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is the professional organization for Certified Public Accountants in Kenya established in 1978 by the Accountants Act, CAP 531.
Since then, ICPAK has been dedicated to development and regulation of the accountancy profession in Kenya to enhance its contribution and that of its members to national economic growth and development.

Job Summary: The Legal Services Officer is responsible for discipline and regulations, and the general legal support in the various departments.
He / She shall assist the Senior Manager, Legal Services in handling legal and contractual matters at the Institute.Job ProfileThe Legal Services Officer shall report to the Senior Manager, Legal Services and shall perform the following essential duties and responsibilities as stated here below:
Discipline and Regulations
Liaise with external lawyers on legal matters for or against the Institute (ICPAK) concerning disciplinary matters.
Conduct investigations into allegations of professional misconduct against members.
Maintain and file all Court proceedings.
Collect and collate evidence and recommend appropriate action to the Institute.
Assist the Disciplinary Committee to make further investigations depending on submissions made at a disciplinary inquiry.
Make summaries to the Disciplinary Committee on the outcome of investigations.
Respond to enquiries regarding members’ professional status.
Compile quarterly list of auditors in good standing and send to Regulators and requisite organizations.
Investigate reports of illegal practitioners, coordinating arrest and arraignment in court in conjunction with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Act as the Institute witness in court cases concerning illegal practice or discipline matters.
Send notices and agenda on Disciplinary Committee meetings to members.
Write Minutes on Disciplinary Committee proceedings and ensure their safekeeping in the minute book.
Follow-up on Committee resolutions and ensure that necessary action is taken
Invite accused persons and witnesses for Disciplinary Committee inquiries
Advise the Disciplinary Committee on matters of law and procedure to ensure rules of natural justice are followed.
Legal Support / Advisory
Vet and draw up legal instruments such as contracts, leases and agreements.
Vet members on disciplinary related issues.
Act as custodian of all the relevant legal documents and registers.
Coordinate the Institute’s conveyance transactions as shall be required.
Provide legal opinion as required by the Institute and legal advice to other departments.
Participate in the settlement of disputes through alternative methods of dispute settlement e.g. arbitration.
Identify gaps in existing guidelines or need to come up with new guidelines as shall be appropriate.
Research on best practices from other Accountancy Institutes.
Assist in drafting guidelines and seek approval from the Council of ICPAK.
Disseminate the new guidelines to the membership in seminars and through the journal
Offer trainings on need basis e.g. in the areas of policies and ethics.
Advise on legal environment and changes needed to various acts of parliament.
Advice on changes required to the by-laws to harmonize with existing laws and ethical code. e.g. amendments to statutes, guidelines and the by Laws.
Assist members in winding up their firms by appointing interim manager.
Legal Support to members and other Departments
Research on legal related matters.
Give legal advice and opinion to members.
Offer legal advice to officers within the organization.
Assist other departments in drafting of policies and guidelines.
Assist other departments in the day to day management of legal risks e.g. Audit Quality Assurance (AQA) on registration and admission
Attend to other departmental legal needs. e.g. support AQA, Compliance, registration, procurement department and others requiring legal advice and services.
Person Profile: Qualifications and experience
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
Diploma in Law (Kenya School of Law)
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
Member of the Law Society of Kenya
At least (2) years of relevant experience
