Systems Administrator

Responsible for the upkeep, configuration, secure, reliable operation of computer systems, network system and database servers. Ensures that the uptime, back-ups, performance, resources and security of the computers/systems being managed meet the needs of the users/organization.
Roles for the Systems Administrator Job
Network administrator
Network monitoring, testing the network for weakness and keeping an eye out for needed updates.
Installing and implementing security programs
Evaluating and implementing network management software
Monitoring network traffic and bottleneck.
Database administrator
Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security
Controlling access permissions and privileges
Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans
Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and software developers/programmers
Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products Systems
Administer the Microsoft exchange server and manager policies
Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems
Applying operative system updates, patches and configuration changes
Installing and configuring new hardware and software
Performing routine audits of systems and software
System performance tuning
Setup security policies for users
Configure, Add, Delete file systems. Knowledge of Volume management tools like Veritas e.t.c
Implement the policies for the use of the computer system and network.
Systems Administrator Job Qualifications
A minimum B.sc. (Computer Science) graduate from a recognized university.
Must have a minimum five (5) years relevant experience in a busy IT environment
Must have relevant experience installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft applications; Windows active directory, SQL server, MS-Exchange, Configure and manage network devices (routers, switches and firewalls),
Back-ups, network systems and database maintenance
Must have skills in security of the technology environment
Experience in project management is an added advantage
