OUR HISTORY
Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) is a county governments’ agency which derives its mandate from the Companies Act of 2015 as a Company Limited by Guarantee to accelerate the socio-economic development of the member counties, increasing its trade, tourism and investments, encouraging private enterprise, and advancing efforts towards peace and development. It also acts as the Frontier Counties coordinating office for Kenya Vision 2030 and related programs and projects to ensure its active participation in the national, regional and sub-regional priority initiatives.
Over the past one year, it has established its networks which prompted the Frontier Counties’ stakeholders to continue the call for the institutionalization of FCDC. Primarily supported by the member county governments of Garissa, Isiolo, Lamu, Mandera, Marsabit, Tana River and Wajir, the Memorandum of Understanding creating the Frontier Counties Development Council was signed by the Frontier County Governors on 2nd March 2016, paving the way for registration of FCDC as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 21st April 2016 under the new Companies Act of 2015.
FCDC was likewise created to address the need to promote and strengthen inter-regional linkages to ensure the integrated viability of the programs and projects in Frontier Counties, with the county governments as frontline entities that will realize the development of specific geographical areas.
Its purpose is to serve as a catalyst in promoting, integrating and sustaining peace and socio-economic development in the region with the aid of the people of Frontier Counties.
