POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting aspects of projects, guaranteeing precise transaction handling, account reconciliations, payroll management, and adherence to statutory and donor obligations. This position assists with financial reporting, procurement operations, audits, and the administration of project finances in alignment with established organizational guidelines and protocols.
Oversee a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, operational execution, and performance evaluation to ensure organizational objectives are met with precision. Lead cross-functional teams to foster collaboration, streamline processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, compliance, and risk management across all departments. Serve as a key liaison with stakeholders, including executives, clients, and regulatory bodies, to align business strategies with industry standards and market demands. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate actionable insights through data analysis to inform decision-making and optimize resource allocation.
Handle financial transactions pertaining to office and project expenses while ensuring a well-organized filing system for financial records and project documentation.
Accurate documentation of financial transactions is essential to track the fiscal health of project operations, with all accounting records requiring timely updates, reconciliation, and comprehensive validation.
Review payments to verify alignment with financial records and ensure accurate reconciliation within the designated management system.
Maintain, oversee, and document all financial services associated with payments, fund transfers, partners, and projects—including prepaid, payable, receivable, and payroll accounts—as well as accruals, strictly adhering to FADE’s established policies and procedures.
Responsible for the accurate upkeep of payment vouchers, accounting logbooks, and all relevant supporting documentation.
Verify the precision of accounting entries and confirm the sufficiency of supporting documentation.
Compile the monthly payroll data and produce the corresponding payroll reports, as well as all related by-product reports detailing deductions.
Ensure adherence to regulatory obligations concerning the timely and accurate submission of statutory deductions, including contributions to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NAIF), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Higher Education Loans Board (HELD), and other relevant authorities.
Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure they are submitted for review and approval no later than the fifth day of each month.
Facilitate the project office’s procurement needs by adhering to established procurement policy guidelines and ensuring full compliance with AIDS and DRAG regulations.
Provide support to the Finance Officer in compiling and finalizing financial reports for all projects executed by Fondazione L’Albert Della Vita / The Tree of Life in Kenya.
Assist in the development and maintenance of inventory records.
Collaborate with the Finance Officer to facilitate the drafting and execution of agreements with vendors, collaborators, and service providers.
Engage actively in the audit process by conducting thorough evaluations and assessments to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline is essential for this role, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial reporting, auditing, or compliance. Proficiency in GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations is mandatory, as is experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle. Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex financial data are critical. Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities are also required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership. Prior supervisory experience and familiarity with internal controls and risk assessment frameworks are highly desirable.
A recognized institution must award a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with a specialization in Accounting or Finance, Economics, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification at an advanced level, or an equivalent and relevant credential.
Proficiency and expertise in computer applications, specifically Excel and accounting software, have been demonstrated.
Minimum of three years of professional experience in finance or accounting is required.
A solid grasp of financial and accounting policies, standards, and relevant regulatory requirements is essential.
Proficiency in community development initiatives, particularly those supported by international non-governmental organizations or projects funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AIDS), is highly desirable.

The selected candidate will receive a gross monthly salary between KES 60,000 and KES 70,000, commensurate with their qualifications and professional background. Comprehensive health insurance coverage will be extended to the appointee following the satisfactory completion of the three-month probationary period.
