About the Project
Monitoring and Evaluation & Strategic Information Systems (MESIS) is a project led by Health Strat in partnership with the National and AIDS STI Control Program (NASCOP) and University of Nairobi through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Project enhances strategic information capacity for HIV/AIDS programs towards sustaining epidemic control in Kenya by focusing on monitoring and evaluation (M&E), data science and technological innovations in health information systems.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Data Scientist, the Data Analyst will focus on analyzing HIV related data from data platforms such as DHIS2 platforms and the DREAMS database. S/he will support automation of data reporting, extraction, analysis, and presentation processes to enhance efficiency. The Data Analyst will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to ensure that data is presented in a clear, accessible format for various stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for transforming raw data into actionable insights using self-service analytics tools such as dashboards, ensuring data quality and consistency. This role may extend to analyzing data from sources beyond DHIS2 to provide comprehensive insights that support HIV program outcomes. The position will collaborate with stakeholders, including donors and government representatives, to capture reporting and data needs.
Roles and Responsibilities
Extract, clean and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from various data sources to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
Provide data-driven answers to key business/program questions facilitating data informed decision making.
Develop and maintain self-service tools such as Dashboards that provide clear accessible data visualization for stakeholders.
Collaborate with the M&E team to develop strategic information products for program action.
Automate data analysis processes to improve reporting efficiency.
Perform thorough data validation and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency of data in Dashboards and program reports.
Analyze data from various sources and generate data alignment reports presented in Dashboards and program reports.
Support scientific writing including abstract and manuscript writing to document program work and outcomes.
Support the Ministry of Health through NACSOP in data mining and analysis of HIV program and other data sources in various activities including data and service quality assessment (D/SQA) and quarterly performance reviews (QPR).
Participate in project meetings, sharing insights and providing recommendations based on data analysis.
Support in any ad-hoc data analysis task that may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, data science, business analytics, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree is an added advantage.
At least five (5) years of technical experience in data analytics or similar roles, preferably in a health-related field or public health program.
Demonstrated experience in collecting, processing, and analyzing large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
Experience with data cleaning, preparation, and validation to ensure data quality and integrity. Ability to perform descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to inform decision-making
Familiarity with health sector data systems such as KHIS, KenyaEMR and other health information systems.
Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, STATA, R, or Python and geospatial analysis tools e.g. Tableau, GIS.
Advanced skills in querying and managing databases using SQL to extract and manipulate data efficiently.
Experience in writing complex SQL queries, optimizing performance, and working with relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
