Job Purpose
This cadre will be responsible for overseeing of harvesting and transportation of mill cane to the factory.
Job description
Duties and responsibilities of this cadre will entail:-
Leading the planning and coordination of harvesting schedules to ensure timely and efficient cutting of cane from the fields.
Overseeing the management and maintenance of harvesting equipment to ensure it is operational and in good condition.
Spearheading the organization and supervision of labor for harvesting operations, ensuring an adequate workforce.
Implementing quality assurance measures during harvesting to ensure that mature and healthy cane is harvested.
Planning and managing the logistics of transporting harvested cane from the fields to the mill.
Developing and implementing maintenance schedules for transportation vehicles and equipment used in cane transport.
Overseeing the management and maintenance of the company’s cane haulage fleet.
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards during harvesting and transportation activities.
Monitoring and controlling costs associated with harvesting and transportation operations.
Providing regular reports on harvesting and transportation activities, including performance metrics
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Assistant Manager, Harvesting and Transportation or in a comparable position in the Public or Private Sector;
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: General Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Agriculture Extension and Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Agronomy, Agribusiness Management, Agriculture Extension and Education, Plant Biotechnology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Membership to a relevant professional body where applicable and in good standing;
Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
Proficiency in computer applications; and
Demonstrated managerial and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results.
