The Finance Officer will be responsible for re-organizing the accounting operations including putting in place any necessary finance and accounting based policies and procedures which are consistent with the regulatory requirements and in accordance with the reporting needs of the organization. The ideal candidate MUST be passionate about steering the company to reach its financial management goals.

Qualifications, Background, competencies, and attributes

(Knowledge, skills, and abilities may have been acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, and prior experience or on-the-job training).

At least a bachelor’s degree in finance/accounts/economics or other relevant disciplines.
Must hold a professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CFA, or CA and be a member of relevant professional body.
At least three (3) years experience in the field of accounting, financial management and/or audit.

Experience with financial forecasts and cost-benefit analyses.
Advanced MS Excel skills with experience in using Odoo as a finance/accounting software. Additional knowledge and use of other accounting/finance softwares is a plus.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

Financial Management

Put in place and manage systems and structures that ensures production of meaningful reports e.g. charts of accounts, budget templates, process flows etc.
Manage preparation, coordination and control of budgets including budget forecasts and tracking.
Ensure that expenses are aligned with the approved project budget.
Manage cash flow projections and actual cash analysis.
Develop cash flow statements in an easy to understand formats while maintaining their efficiency and effectiveness.
Manage cost centers for business units and undertake their respective variance analysis.
Notify management early in case of significant variance on the budgets.
Ensure periodic reconciliation of all bank accounts.
Ensure monthly trial balances and final accounts are correctly done i.e., income, expenditure and balance sheet.
Make financial forecast based on current and past data.
Based on past and present data, advice the management in making prudent financial decisions.
Develop and implement Elewa’s finance based policies as well as provide policies review recommendations for management’s consideration.

Risk Management

Ensure that the organization does not suffer any financial or material loss through fraud and/or error by closely monitoring and maintaining an adequate system of internal control.
Ensure that periodic inventory counts are undertaken and included in the books of accounts.
Carry out periodic internal audits and prepare audit reports clearly stipulating the findings and recommendations.
Take part in external audit preparation and implement improvements as per recommendations.

Compliance

Ensure that the organization complies with all the legal, regulatory and audit requirements.
Establish and ensure adherence to the organization’s Financial Policies and Procedures, and generally accepted accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.
Perform quality assurance and weekly audits on the work of the accountants and other staff to ensure that filing/postings are in line with reality.
Reporting
File all necessary returns to the relevant regulatory bodies.
Produce accurate financial reports and information on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
Maintain up to date financial records and files, including all required supporting documents.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by Elewa’s leadership from time to time and which MUST be related to the achievement of Elewa’s mission and vision.
