ABOUT THE ROLE
The Water and Construction Technician will play a crucial role in the successful execution of the various construction, water treatment (reverse osmosis), pipeline extensions and ground water projects. The candidate is responsible for implementing and supervising a wide range of construction activities under the guidance of the water and construction engineer. The candidate will be crucial in ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards and therefore must be competent in both practical ground water and construction skills and administrative tasks.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Interpreting and implementing construction and renovations plans and specifications from engineers and architects.
Assisting in the coordination and monitoring of various contractors and construction workers.
Ensuring that all regulations, safety codes, and health standards are adhered to strictly.
Conducting on-site inspections and reviewing construction/renovations materials to validate quality and adherence to specifications.
Maintaining detailed records of construction/renovations processes, incidents, and progress reports for stakeholder review.
Operating and maintaining construction/renovation equipment and tools.
Assisting with surveying and setting up equipment and sites for construction.
Providing technical advice and solving problems on-site.
Develop technical designs, bill of quantities and tender documents and coordinate with relevant government bodies (NEMA, Department of Public Works, WRA and Department of Health) for approval and licensing.
Identify water and sanitation improvement opportunities for the various specific contexts and propose innovative solutions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Professional Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering, Water or Construction) or related field.
Required Experience Essential
Minimum of two (2) years’ in water and sanitation project design, supervision, contract management, tendering, community & authority engagement and budgeting.
Experience in the WASH and construction sector in the arid and semi-arid (ASAL) regions, preferably in Turkana County.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, MS-Word)
Ability to work well with people in a cross-functional team environment and across administrative boundaries, as well as to work well independently
Ability to adapt to change and work in an environment with rapidly evolving requirements.
Excellent skills of interpersonal communication, presentation skills, writing in English, analysis of complex documents
Excellent oral and written communications skills
