Key duties and responsibilities
Perform monthly EHS inspections, prepare a monthly EHS inspection report and pro-actively follow up on findings and recommendations.
Assist in providing formal EHS company trainings on health and workplace safety, hazardous waste, and other occupational and environmental topics and ensure that scheduled EHS trainings are being carried out;
Perform weekly inspections of all emergency equipment, tools, and the dispensary at the dairy plant to ensure that they are in proper working condition.
Track, review, and update the dairy plant’s EHS Safety board on a daily basis.
Ensure that EHS related information board notices and signs are properly placed in the right areas and sections around the plant and are not covered, blocked, and or damaged to restrict the purpose of visual communication.
Follow up and ensure that all workplace incidents are recorded and reported as and when they occur;
Assist the EHS Manager in carrying out investigations with the help of the concerned department for all reported workplace accidents and prepare reports for the same covering the nature of incident, place and time of occurrence, staff involved, root cause analysis, emergency response provided and time taken to respond, and recommended corrective action among others;
Perform routine EHS compliance checks against pre-defined checklists across the plant on a daily / weekly basis;
Assist the Manager in liaising with the procurement department by advising and offering guidance in procuring PPE product specifications and perform verification of supplied safety gear equipment;
Provide emergency response for workplace incidents to ensure that Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) incidents are minimized;
Review, monitor and ensure that work permits have followed the right approval processes;
Ensure that all applicable food safety standards are implemented;
Assist in coordinating trainings on First Aid, Fire Safety Drills, communicable diseases among others with external agencies and government bodies.
Assist in coordination of EHS activities in community outreach events;
Co-ordinate engagements with regulatory authorities such NEMA, DOSHS, City Authority etc.
Conduct Risk and Compliance Audits
Assist and participate in the development and updating of EHS related policies; and
Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health / Environmental Science.
Diploma in Risk or Environmental/Public Health will be an added advantage.
Minimum desirable qualification, NEBOSH IGC certified.
Minimum of 5 years relatable experience.
Ability to conduct Risk and Environmental Impact Assessments at the workplace.
Ability to track & analyze different environmental parameters e.g. water, energy, waste, etc.
